996 GT2 U.S. Production Numbers

Hi guys,

I decided to start a thread on this subject since it comes up often and also for the sake of my personal knowledge and of my 6speed brethren.

So how many 996 GT2s were sold in the U.S. from model years 2002 - 2005?

This is what I believe to be the correct amount.

2002 - 184
2003 - 90
2004 - 24
2005 - 5

Total: 303

Now you may ask, where did I get the numbers from?

Well here you go....

2003 PCNA Sales Report (Contains 2002 GT2 numbers as well.)

http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...02083092&EDATE=

2004 PCNA Sales Report (Contains 2003 GT2 numbers as well.)

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...04/313701.html

2005 PCNA Sales Report (Contains 2004 GT2 numbers as well.)

http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...04/204904.html

By the way, the numbers listed above do not include grey market cars as many of you may have guessed.

Let me know what you guys think and please do correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks!

Cool info,

which means you are about twice as likely to see a Carrera GT in the US as
you are to see a GT2 !!!
In my humble state I see (2) Carrera GT's regularily and there is only one
known GT2 (the honorable Luis Sr.!)

Kevin,
I think you are missing one in there somewhere. I always thought that there was 304. Maybe another 05?

Marty, right on!

Luis, I wish we had some sort of official release from Porsche to confirm that. According to the reports shown above, only five were sold officially in the U.S in 2005. Thanks for commenting!

Now can you tell us how many silver, black, white, red and yellow ones were sold for each year?

Now that would be cool

Scott,

Thanks for the post!

So there were 14 more made in 2002. Interesting!

Did you get in touch with PCNA directly for those numbers? Do you have a "hard copy" of the source for that number? I am in no way doubting you buddy. Just curious is all.

Thanks!

Kid GT2 is infamous around these parts
Awsome find, I was always woundering the actual production numbers, Jamie and I thought it to be high 200's or low 300's. Sweet!

I got it from the same sources that you did, but I think you forgot to add some of the very early cars. I'll check when I get home to see exactly what you did and I'll report back.

Great GT2 information.
Did any body have the ’02-’05 WW production for GT2’s buy year as well?

Scott,

Thanks.

But won't the 14 listed under "Year to Date - Prior Year" count for 2001 and not for 2002?

That report says that 14 GT2s were brought state-side in 2001. I thought 2002 was the first year for the GT2 in the U.S. So a couple were officially brought here in 2001. Interesting to say the least!
