HRE 540R on my 996TT - Advice wanted

I am looking to purchase some "used" but in new condtion HRE 540R's, 18 inch (stock size). They are coming off a 996TT.

Since they are used, I don't have any option on size or color, and they have the painted black centers with the HRE center cap, and polished lip. Overall, a very nice looking wheel.

My 996TT is the Artic Silver, and the seller wants $2500 for them, not much rubber left on the tire, so I would transfer my current tires over to the HRE wheel.

Should I wait and go with a 19inch wheel? What is the best wheel size for pure performance?

Is $2500 a fair value for these wheels, or should I look at other options?

Thanks for your feedback.

18s are the best for pure performance. Price sounds ok for used HREs.

price sounds good for used HRE's and should look nice with your silver car. Just make sure they came off a stock 996tt and weren't custom made with aggressive offsets. I just learned my lesson by buying a set of HRE's that rubbed bigtime.

I bought a used set last year from a 6speed member, for my same silver car, at the same price, but I had about 90% tread left on the tires. Talk about Deja Vu?!?!

Here's my advice. I wish I had the 19's sometimes for looks only..., but the 18's are more suited for the car. 19's I feel would slightly hinder the performance. And trust me, I'm a big fan of big wheels. My M5 had 20's, my Infiniti FX45 has 22's... I love big wheels. But this is a 'classy' setup.

Plus the wheels epitomize the look of the 996TT in my opinion.

Good luck,

Bojan

Is your car lowered or running on stock suspension? If lowered who's suspension is it? Does weight matter? From what I've encountered HRE's are not the lightest wheel out there. Are they for bling of performance? If your going with performance then find a light 18" wheel... if it is more for bling then I say be patient find a set of 19's. They look wonderful on our cars. Personally I wouldn't roll anything but a 19. I even track with 19's and have found the performance issue to be mute. Good luck.

Good price overall cause those wheels are expensive...and BTW - HRE will refinish and give those wheels all kinds of love, so if you really wanted a different finish or anything like that they can still take care of you on the used wheels.

Great Feedback from everyone - Thank you.

I purchased the wheels, they turned out to be HRE 543R, the seller was a bit confused, but still in prefect shape.? I ended up paying $2300 for the 4 wheels, plus I got the front PS2's tossed in, which still have lots of life so I left them on the front HRE wheels. I shifted mt rear tires over to the new HRE's. The prior owner of the wheels had HRE 315's on the rear, is that normal?

You must be mistaken...HRE 315's? You must mean something else. And yes you can put 315's on the rear, but you will need to match diameter in the front...235/40F, 315/30R
