I am in the process of finalizing the installation of my stereo system. I have learned a ton from the board members on what works great and not so great in the 996. What a great resource you have all been!
I have designed and installed numerous audio/video systems in other cars, but I wanted to do something special for this one. I enlisted the help of some full-time audio professionals this time around.
Clean...yes, stealth....yes, ordinary...no. I have put together some pretty gaudy and wild stuff in the past. I didn't think this belonged in a 996 TT. So tame and stealth it is...
I'll post some pics as soon as I can, but let's just say that Dynaudio, Phoenix Gold, Alpine, XM, and Microsoft would be proud...
As I started the research on which components to choose, I was very surprised to see some design and engineering flaws which kept me from purchasing some, otherwise, very solid units from Eclipse, Pioneer, and Kenwood Excelon... The only manufacturer that offered 'logical' flexibility was Alpine. In addition, filling up the stock 3 DIN spaces is no easy task either......
If you look in the rear behind the seats or at the door and rear seat panels and EVEN under the hood storage area, it looks completely stock. But hidden and lurking are 9 channels of amplfication making over 1000 watts, 13 speakers, Dolby Digital DTS 5.1 processor, DVD changer with Dolby Digital DTS 5.1 , CD changer, X-Box5.1 Dolby, DVD/X-Box glasses (60" virtual screen), 7" widescreen, etc... and all audio sources are sent via fiber optics, not standard RCAs.
thanks again...
After only having the car for 2 months I feel like I have accomplished quite a bit on my EVO Stage IV 996TT X50. I think it's time to sit back and enjoy my new ride!!!

Just a quick update...
I have been snapping some pics of the before/after and install pics. I will post these soon.
I am very excited about how 'stealth' the whole system is. Literally, if you look through the rear glass at the rear seats and behnid them, through the front glass, at the door panels, and under the hood, everything looks completely stock (just the way I wanted it).
I only hope it sounds great; I can't believe I ended up doing 13 speakers pushing 1150 watts.
The X-box and DVD glasses may be a little over the top, but then again so is the Dolby Digital/DTS 5.1....
Can't wait to show all of you pics. I must admit it won't look like much because everything is hidden; but this, in itself was a true project and took a ton of time to ensure maximum stealthiness.

That's awesome man! As a stereo guy myself, I'm really looking forward to see your project come together. I certainly understand your desire for stealth!!! It sounds like a lot of fun!!! =)
