it's been perfectly normal for 996tt's since i've been reading about them ('02).. my car eats a little more w/ a rebuilt engine. nature of the beast.

I wonder if running regular oil for the first 1-2k miles would have fixed this problem?

I don't think a subaru is a flat 6 though(?), my new 997TT used about 1/2 a qt so far with 1600 miles, breaking in by the book. Of course it was a bit down when I picked it up. We'll see.

Wow, mine must be an abnormality! in no way it consumes the amount of oil you guys are describing, and never ever blows smoke, knock on the wood.

Normal, No leaks,no bad seals, no drips on the garage, 1 qt per 1500 miles. Thats the way it is.

Any car with a flat motor will leak some oil into the cylinders on shut down, that is the small puff of smoke you see at start up.
It is perfectly normal and nothing to worry about.

I do not believe that they use the same coatings in the cylinder walls that Mahle does hence the consumption is not going to be the same. Since the introduction of nickasl (sp) the consumption of 1 quart to every 600 Kilometers is acceptable by Porsche standards
