Extended Warranty - California

Hey Guys,

I've got about a week left on my factory warranty and need to decide whether or not to get an extended warranty. My problem is I'm in California and it seems like there are almost no companies that offer extended warranties here. Anyone have good/bad experiences? Suggestions? (for companies that will cover in California)

Also I've got Stage 2 goodies and I was wondering if anyone has had problems getting things covered?

Should I even bother?

Thanks for any feedback.

Jake

I would recommend EASY CARE warranty. I got this at newport beach porsche. As far as your mods, the exhaust shouldn't void your warranty, but it will not be covered. I would get a flashloader, if possible, for your chip. That way you can flash back to stock in case there is any engine problem.

Easy Care is what I have. I also got mine at Newport Porsche.

FWIW, I haven't had to use it yet, so I can't comment on how well it will cover you or how easy it is to use.

I have an after market extended warranty. They have covered parts and most labor (did not cover the diagnostic time to find the problem). My warrant is Mercury. The warranty has almost paid for itself in 1.5 years.

I spoke with a Porsche technician, and he said that it depends on what insurance adjuster inspects your car, for warranty items. Some know the cars pretty well, others not so much. He said he would 'not see' mods and will not note them, but the insurance company will, if they know what to look for. If the warranty adjuster does not notice it, you should be fine. For my car, every time there is a claim, someone from the warranty company comes out to ok or deny it.

Hope that helps.

I just had warranty work on my car covered by Total Shield. The Total Shield rep in California is Brian (562) 458-8197.

That's what Iahve too. Paid $1800 for 7 years or 60 miles. That's 7 years from the end of the factory years, so 2011. $100 deduct and they pay!

Hurry up, your needs to be under the factory warranty when you get it! All you need is an oil change.

Warranty for California Turbo

Sorry to revive this thread, but it seems I now need a warranty. When I bought the 996tt, the dealer put a 5 year, 60K on it with Western General who I have had great luck with (they put a new engine in my other porsche). Now after four weeks, Western General says they won't do an AWD Turbo.
So, Mercury, Easy Care, and Total Shield are they other popular ones. If anyone has experience getting them to payout, it would be great to hear you experience.
Thanks

Are these warranties good for other vehicles, like a Range Rover?

I had a Mercury warranty on mine, alternator croaked, RUF replaced it and all parties were happy.

That sounds like a fair deal. Would you mind sharing where I can get it? I am in the Bay area. Also, do I have to be the original owner or can a second owner get it as long as the car is within factory warranty?

Mercury no longer insures turbos. With Total Shield, they will insure your car even though it is out of factory warranty.

That's good to know, as the cars I am lookinig at ('02s and '03s) are out of warranty. Someone mentioned $1,800 for 7 yr/60K above for Easy Care, is Total Shield, in your experience, somewhat similar in price?
