Stereo Upgrade for stock system
Stereo Upgrade for stock system
I have the stock sound system with Nav was wondering if it is worth it to put better speakers in the stock locations. Thanks for your input.
I have the stock system as well. I, along with several other people on the board have replaced the stock speakers with aftermarket and heard somewhat of a difference in sound quality. I used the Polk Audio latest 4" and 3". It wasn't much of an investment, around $200, and was worth it to me.
I changed my speakers a year back...........they are an improvement. But be aware that your stock head unit may not have the power to drive upgraded speakers to thier full capacity. Also, without a sub-woofer if you crank up the sound you'll get more noticeable distortion in the lower frequencies.
Personally, I think a small sub-woofer (is there such a thing?) AND a small amplifier would be a help.
Or, a replacment head unit that would accept an iPod integration and pump out some more useful power might be a better choice.

I modded my sound system in two stages; First stage I installed the FVD export exhaust system. Now that's its too loud to listen to the sound system, I'm planning on removing the radio and all the speakers.

See my sig....iPOD is nice....stock speakers with the Pioneer sounds good enough to me to be happy....TJW exhaust mod is not intrusive, but louder than OEM, so I often raise the volume. The Pioneer head has plenty of power for me.
Good luck.

Get a custom box made and add subs and an AMP. I'm not sure if replacing the speakers is cost effective.
This company sells pre-made enclosures, but I think you're better off finding someone local to make it and install it.

If you are into the sound...fully agree with the above. Me, I am into just getting the iPOD to work. And, my PCM died on me. Do you have any idea how much the dealer wanted just for the computer part....2300.....so I went Pioneer.
Nothing more complex than that.
Why would you want to add a sub but not upgrade the speakers up front. The speaker package in these cars suck and adding a sub but not replacing the rest makes no sense to me. Adding a 4-500 watt amp and subs will outperform the factory speaker setup, defeats the purpose IMO
