Question Dreaded PSM / ABS failure lights

Any feedback would be appreciated. Yesterday, five minutes into my drive, the PSM and then ABS failure came across the display, and then the lights turned on. "Take the vehicle to the workshop" was the feedback the display gave me. I pulled over and turned the car off for a moment. Turned it back on again, the lights were gone, but the display had logged the failures.

Once back at home, I proceeded to check 6speedonline for input. I found and did the following:

1. Disconnected the battery for 15 minutes.
2. Reconnected opened the drivers door turned the ignition key on (without) starting, and went the back of the car to listen for the maf reset. everything went as planned.

Today, I started the car, no messages or lights..... I proceeded to drive ~5miles, checking to see if I could obtain full boost, and was able to see 1.0 with a very brief 1.3 reading. I didn't really drive the car hard. 3rd gear, floor the peddle, and watch the gadge.

I thought I was out of the woods, until I was sitting at a signal light, and then all of a sudden the display popped up the failures again, and the lights turned on. darn..... I drove the car home, and was still able to obtain 1.0 and a brief 1.3 reading when accerlating..

Can anyone point me to possible problems, before I surrender and go to the dealer?

I have bailey dvs, and I am running the EVO Stage 4 ECU. Have been for 6k miles..

Thanks

what a coinsidence...

my ABS and PSM just started to lid up about 3 days ago.
the lights does NOT come on straight away... it turns on after you drove the car for about 5 mins...but I also noticed that the ABS and PSM lights can turn off by itself too just for a couple minutes only... and then it goes back on again!

what's going on? can this be fixed through an ODB reader?

TIA,
Endra

Very weird.. has your onboard computer logged the failures? My "check" section has and "!Check" and both failures are noted...

Car seems to drive fine.

I did not look at the "check" section, but I know exactly what you're talking about... I will check on Friday, when I get the car back from the details. I did 2 tests to see the ABS/PSM lights. The first one; I drove the car very smooth, after 5 mins of driving, the lights came on. Second one; couple hours after that... I drove the car HARD, but same thing after a couple minutes; both lights came on again! then, when I was cornering, the lights turn back off... then not long after that, turns on again...

but the car drives normal.

Voltage on the MAF is too low. It will throw a code in time. The system is diabled then if it continues it will throw a code.

Stephen,

so...are we supposed to increase voltage to the MAF to get rid of this problem? If so, how? If not, what's the fix?

Thanks!

Stephen,

Thanks for the info. How do you increase the voltage to the MAF?

Thanks

The bad part is you can't. You have to replace the MAF

I assume the best course of action is to take the car to the dealer, and have them diagnose the issue, and if it is the MAF, it should be replaced under warranty? Any issues there?

I get the same thing when i did speed runs when i first got the Turbo, whenever i would stop accelerating at 140+ the PSM and ABS lights went off. When i took the car to the dealer they said it logged some engine fault where the engine produces different amount of power when it shouldnt. I know that doesnt make any sense but its some weird fault. The tech said it was not a huge deal and just deleted it from the memory.

Yes, just let the dealer cover it. I just replaced mine for the second time. They are around 350-400 bones. I would rather not deal with the dealer so I just replaced it.

Talking

A big thanks to Fred Courtot for referring me to Brian Haske @ Carlsen Porsche. I took my car there yesterday morning, and they identified and fixed my ABS/PSM problem by the afternoon.

It turned out to be the front passenger wheel speed sensor that caused the lights and failure messages. The sensor was replaced under warranty.

Prompt, outstanding customer service was provided by Brian and his crew. They even loaned me a Boxster while my car was in the shop. I'm a happy customer.

Thanks everyone for your feedback with regard to possible causes.
