Question X50 specs?

So I've been reading all sorts of articles about how much faster the X50 TT is over stock. The final word I got from the local dealer porsche mechanic is 0-60 in 3.7! I'm finding it very hard to believe that this is true. Considering that the Ruf Turbo is at 3.6 and costs a hell of a lot more than the X50. What is really strange is that Porsche documents the 0-62 of the tt at 4.2 but nothing is written about the X50 performance.

Thoughts and comments?

Thanks guys!

Motor Trend did a small X-50 test and got 3.7 secs 0-60mph and 11.86 @ 119.91 in the 1/4 mile. Road and Track tested a RUF Turbo and got 3.8 secs and 11.9 @ 122.7. Road and Track also did 0-100mph in 8.8 secs in a X-50 996TT. I hope these help

What we have to realize when reading magazine 0 to X speed times is some publish data achieved using a rollout time discount and other magazines do not use a rollout. Basically a 3.7 second 0-60 with 12 inches of rollout is about a 4.2 without zero inches of rollout. The same trick goes for the 1/4 mile times.

For the X50 I seriously doubt 99% of the guys at the dealer, if given the chance, couldn't break 4 seconds to 60 mph with the bulk of the attempts being upward close to 5 seconds or more.

The base 996tt is easier to launch with the smaller turbos and less lag. The triptronic X50 when power breaked hammers pretty good out of the hole, but won't beat a nice 5000k+ rpm launch on a manual. Most manual launch attempts dog pretty hard unless you've had a reasonable amount of practice.

Car and Driver tested a stock Turbo 0-60 in 3.9 sec, and 0-100 mph in 8.9 sec.

Motor Trend tested a stock Turbo and recorded an 11.92 at 116.09 mph in the quarter mile..

X50 seems like a huge rip off, just go to CEC and buy the Techart exhaust and Stage 1.1 which will take oyu to around 490hp for about 18k if im not mistaken

Arling,

CGT is "Fast"!

But I doubt anyone of us has had an opportunity to test it, "yet"!

I guess this is really a mut point since the difference between 3.8 and 4.2 is most likey more the ability of the driver than the car.

but point well taken!

Thanks!

Okay,

So here is an article on the X50 performance by Motor Trend.

They rate the 0-60 at 3.7sec.

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/..._frst_porsche/

They don't specify how the test though.....

and yet another by "Sport Performance".

http://www.sportandperformance.com/i...sid=39&aid=346

They rate the 0-60 at 3.9sec.

Also don't specifiy how they did the test.

The roll out time is already added back to the 0 - 60 or 1/4 mile time if using G-Tech or something of that nature. I run 4.0Xs in my TT and 4.6Xs in my 964. The 4.0 is with the rollout already added back into the final time of 4.0X so if you add the roll out again, you are adding it twice.

Fact versus Fiction

This thread leads me to my own personal mystery.

I have a 2002 996TT with the X50 option. I have done the EVO Stage2 mods including ECU, intake filter and exhaust which I am told will add approximately 130 horsepower.

I have no factual/actual baseline reference power figure for my X50 equipped car as delivered from the dealer. The mythical numbers range from 455 to over 500.

Without having the car put on an AWD dyno can someone help out a rookie and give me some accurate numbers for either the factory horsepower figures or the now EVO modified figures please and thanks.

Might be old news but I was going thru my TT owners manual last night and found that the official 0 to 62 times are as follows (per the Porsche 911 Turbo owners manual page 207):

For manual transmissions:

Manual TT --> 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 sec

Manual TT X50 "high-power version" --> 0 to 62 mph in 4.2 sec

For Tiptronic transmissions:

Tiptronic TT --> 0 to 62 mph in 4.9 sec

Tiptronic TT X50 "high-power version" --> 0 to 62 in 4.5 sec

I thought this might be interesting information. The X50 debate continues!

0-100 and 1/4 mile times are more meaningful than 0-60, unless you plan to race someone from stop light to stop light. Also, 0-60 may or may not include the 1st to 2nd shift.

The Ruf CTR does 0-60 in 4.0 seconds, but takes only 3.3 more seconds to reach 100!
