How we measure our oil temp????

This has been discussed before but I have yet to see the solution. Oil temp is crucial in knowing the condition of your car. In light of Tom's recent ordeal I'm more antsy than ever to get to the bottom of this.

Has anyone come up with a 996 TT specific remedy or anything that works in general. Any help would be appreciated. I am running Road Atlanta this weekend and it's supposed to be a scorcher. I think I'll end up doing 3 laps at a time and then a cool down and pit just for precaution.
