Cracked Carbon Fiber Steering Wheel

Looking at a car that has a carbon fiber steering wheel with a crack in the carbon fiber. Just wondering if cracking was common or not with carbon fiber, and if not, what would cause it to crack and if it is something to be overly concerned about. Thanks.

Seems to be a common problem with the OEM carbon and it's also turning yellow another common problem

while carbon fiber is stronger than steel, it is very brittle. I would not be too concerned that the wheel had a crack. It could be from a big watch hitting the wheel and the crack spread. More reason for a Techart or Ruf wheel.

Does the car sit outside in the sun? My dealer warned me yesterday to get a sun shade for the dash. They said they have seen quite a few CF wheels crack due to sun exposure.

My understanding is that it's not the CF itself that cracks, but rather the coating/resin over it -- hot sun can do it, plus the yellowing. Not sure from the pic, but it looks like maybe there's some leather shrinkage at the junction of the CF and leather on the top?

Sunlight = yellow Carbon Fiber

I had it happen to a Top Secret CF hood on my G35 Coupe...gotta keep A LOT of wax on it - but since this is interior - i guess tint/sunshade/park inside are the best options.
