Couple of thoughts:

Did you look at carfax? Someone had the service done by a group that reported the service visits- smart. So you can call them and maybe that have more info...

Know anyone with access to auction data? Sold at auction Jan this year- find out the sale price, could be useful.

Good luck

A

KBB is completely useless. Count on it being 15-20% OVER what you'll find if you track sales for a few months.

I've bought 3 cars in the last 4 years and the KBB premium always came out about the same.

If you like the color, the mileage, and the records, that's the premium that you pay for "the package". If you are willing to go with any other color or higher mileage, then you have some bargaining room. The value depends how much you want it.

Why do you guys think he should be able to buy it at the wholesale value? What dealer would sell it for no profit?

Anyone with a dealers license can purchased. These dealers typically charge $500 for their time/service to pick-up a car at auction. I believe in the next few months (specifically christmas) prices will continue to fall considerably.

I kindly disagree, if you track ebay aka what cars really sell for then you will see that these cars have been stabalizing rather than decreasing drastically as they one did. In addition, certain colors w/ low mileage are even selling for more than they what they sold for last christmas.

I agree, in some cases this is VALID. The car industry is sensitive to season, it would be fair to say sports cars in summer will bring premium over winter. The market typically gets flooded with cars, people get desperate.

As a result, deals are found.
