Removing rear bumperettes?

I want to remove my rear bumperettes and have a body shop patch the holes. Has anyone here removed theirs? What all is involved?

VERY easy. Just get a very small flathead or pic and lift up on the small cover. Then get the correct size allen and loosen (not remove) the bolts enough so that you can remove them.

Seems like a very easy thing to do and I bet you could get bumper plugs for the holes from Eric at www.BumperPlugs.com that way if you can put the bumperettes back on if you sell the car.

I was wondering if bumper plugs could work. How big are the holes that are left behind?

i believe they're huge gaping holes from the last time i saw a thread about removing them. I think that's why people just get the color-matched replacements from bumperplugs.com

Good question, judging by the pix on Marks thread, they may be too big to have plugged. Maybe Eric will chime in. But it might be best to do what Mark did judging by CJV's holes. Even if there are plugs, they may just look weird because they'd be so big. Have you thought about painting the bumperettes body color instead of removing them?

When the bumperettes are removed there are steel brackets which when removed would leave very large cutouts in the firberglass. They wouldn't be able to just be plugged. You would have to do bodywork to hide the cutouts.

Do you have a pic Tom? Do you worry about hitting a wall in the rear and taking out your engine?

By the time you plug and paint you might be better off buying the Euro bumper.

Hmm, sounds interesting. Wonder if it can be ordered at a local porsche parts dealer.
Does Techart make a full rear bumper or just the add on pieces?
