Blown IC Hose

So I take the car out today for the first time in 2 weeks with the gf in town. Wanted to show her how much faster it is now than last time she was in it, so I get on it hard in 2nd. BIG boost spike, shift to third and **POP** sputter sputter backfire sputter. Knew instantly it was a hose and limped it to the nearest gas station a 1/4 mile away (was going there to wash the car anyway). Look in the engine compartment - everything fine. Look under the car and the lower driver side hose was blown off at the IC. Took the bumper off and put the hose back on, washed the car and left. As soon as I pull out of the lot I hit it and WHAM - off it goes again. This time I'm on the side of the road crawling under the car. Managed to wrestle it back into place - heard one click - and took it easy on the way home.

Right now I'm at a crossroads. I have the Blown6 intercoolers coming, and the AP IC hoses on the car now. What have you all done to keep these from blowing off? Wire-tie them in place? The stock clips SUCK, and I can't afford to go through this every time I drive the car now. Should I have longer pipes welded onto the end-tanks and just clamp the hoses on with T-bolts? What have you all done - any pics and or tips would be appreciated!

TIA

You will need longer hoses, size does matter :-) That was the problem I had with my EVOMS hoses, they were to short.

Jimmer -- sorry to hear that even aftermarket silicone boost hoses can blow off. How much boost are you running now?

Not sure I follow bro.
So you think I should go ahead then and extend the metal end pipes on the Blown6 intercoolers and chop off the useless metal ends of the AP hoses and attach the silicone with clamps?

How else can I use 2.5" rubber couplers? There seem to be holes/slots where the useless clips attach. Hmmmm, cover them up with the coupler and clamp them on? Interesting...

Alpha - I'm running 1.1bar with some spikes as high as 1.5bar.

Same problem here, but with OEM hoses twice....I am "babying" the car until I get my new EVO Hoses with big EVO IC's ...expensive yes...but I needed with this boost.

I think 1.5 spikes is too high you may have to check your WG...In a really cold day and in a first run (cooler turbines) I spike 1.4 but for a mille-second and the immediately goes 1.3 and get steady on 1.2. The second run I just get 1.3 pick as you can see on the video, which I have posted before:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvQYrBrdn4A

may be somebody here with more experince may help if I am right or not.

Best.

Yeah, the 1.5 spike (verified with my real Autometer boost gauge) is for like a second and only really happens the first time I hit it when I take it out. Otherwise the spikes are more like 1.2-1.3 and then settles to 1.1. I have the EVO wastegate actuators and probably need to dial them down a bit, but boost is so much damn fun.

I thought this wasn't supposed to happen with "upgraded" hoses. Funny thing is that the passenger side lower IC hose is still stock because the AP one I got doesn't even come close to fitting. Never have had a problem with the stock one.

Lightbulb

me too driver side is the problem..nothing the passenger side lower IC hose. My theory is that this is the turbine that get air faster becasue the air intake cames from that side, and second the IC hose is shorther there as well.

Yeah, that's on Street file and with the upgraded wastegate actuators. I usually run BP102 MON fuel, although I had 10gal of VP109 arrive yesterday that's begging to go in for the Race file.

You took the bumper cover off at the Car Wash? Please explain, I have not had my cover off and I thought it was more than a couple of screws...
