agreed. You can get very confused with all of the research and the "promises" on performance. The V1 is the best. You still have to be smart and not lead over the crest of a hill b/c "instant on" aimed at you without anyone out in front can still nail you a ticket if you are a big time speeder.

Go with the V1. It is, bar none, the best radar detector out there. We have one, and it has saved our asses on MANY occasions
If you're buying through Valentine and not a private seller, ask them about purchasing a refurbished V1. You can get one for around $350 (with warranty).

V1. I put mine in based on this groups opinion, but little did I understand the value of the REAR facing detection. Last two trips to Phx. and back and both times it saved tickets. Yesterday I had a HP just in front of me on the highway, he pulls over and stops. I watch in my rear view and he disappears behind me. I decide to wait a bit, sure enough, the V1 picks him up before I ever saw him. When he comes into view he's coming fast and shoots by me. He did it again a second time, same result. Mount it so it has as clear a view as possible out the back as well.

Why is there no cordless version of the V1? Wouldn't most people rather change out a rechargeable battery every so often, than having a big cord hanging down, or going through the hassle and expense of a "custom" install? I was always curious why there is no battery powered model ... does it just use too much juice??

Get the V1 hardwired. Many people do it themselves. I paid $50 for a car audio installer to do it. Takes about an hour being very careful.

I believe battery powered detectors are not always "on". They have a shorter detection range because of this.

I place my V1 as low on the windshield as I can, so the cord isn't "hanging down" like it would be if the detector were high on the windshield.

V1. I have a built in Passport SR-1 with front and rear sensors put into the bumpers (from the prev. owner) and have tested it along with my V1. It's amazing how much better the the V1 is. It picked a K band trooper yesterday at least a 1/4 mile before the passport did. V1 all the way!!
