Hmm, looks like linear power and max power are two different strategies. I will also let you guys know about the results of the shop its at right now. My kw's are not setup right and the car no longer drifts and returns out of corners, it hops around corners and is wayyy too bouncy on the highway. All else fails i am selling this thing and gettn a new gt3 stock and enjoying oem perfection : > But good thing its my hobby so i am learning alot along the way...

Also proto setup uses a boost controller and they can get me near 700hp, using a different mafs, dual-fuel-pumps, injectors, maybe if i turn down the boost i can accomplish gettn the best of both ? low stock linear power for the track, high output for the street ? thoughts ...

not necessarily - linear power and max power under the curve are different strategies. when the boost shoots up immediately and tapers down, you get the rocket-ship-like feel of a turbo car. when you bleed the boost and prevent it from initially spiking you get a linear approach.

Regarding Chuck's comment above "not necessarily": this is true, HOWEVER
I have typical lo/hi boost settings and the lo setting I bleed off more boost (via
simple settings (gain/set gain) on the boost controller) on the low setting and on
the hi settings I dont let the boost controller touch the waste gates until beyond
1.1 bar, which gives it more of the BANG feeling, and propels the car that way as well.
You CAN have the best of both worlds with the new more sophisticated boost controllers!

(BTW: I run lo boost at all track events.)

Getting ready to run 3 days at Grattan this weekend with the GT700 I will let you know my findings. When I run my car as a Stage 5 a few years ago I was worried about lag, etc... but it worked really well.

I will let you know.

If you like the factory feel, i.e. "linear," I think Ruf is a good choice up to the 550 package. Per Ruf, even the Nardo 590 package is not as optimal for track use.

However, if you seek the best of the best race stuff for the track, the Alzen race team seems to be doing just fine with RS Tuning's 700hp engine package. I would be willing to bet money that the Alzen/RS 996 Turbo race car would easily whoop any 6SpeedOnline member's car around the race track. Then again, it weighs next to nothing, was built specifically for enduro racing, has the full DP aero package, and probably costs way more than even Chad's project! The SECAN intercoolers alone are around $20K for the set.

I can suggest FVD kits for a smooth and linear ride

I have bought their stage kits for my 993TT, 996TT and 997TT , all of their kits were very linear and smooth.

Hamann,

Also good advice.
I will find out tomorrow if my Protomotive package is as good for the track
as when it was a PSI 480 kit level. I suspect it will be more of a handful
and will be running on low boost.

Woodster,
Be careful bud. I know your car is going tobe nasty fast! I have to agree with you on the PSI 480 setup. I can hammer my car all over road atlanta with street tires and as long as I am smooth and use the track outs I barely even blink PSM lights. My car is an auto though but it hits hard and is very easy to run WOT.

The 996 is long gone from the Alzen racing scene and made way to a more reliable N/A engine and better chassis. They are now racing a Cayman with a V10 660BHP engine courtesy of RS Tuning. They came third at the 24hours of Nurburgring in its first appearance, and they had several fastest lap times, technology moves on. Needless to say that Porsche Motorsports is not happy at this and made it clear that they will not support the Cayman in any professional races, due to the threat they represent to their 997RSR.

The Black Devil 996TT remains however the fastest 911 Porsche turbo to ever run the Nordshleiffe (sp).

Here is the future.
