Did PPI.. but result were mix
 

I was interested in buying a 03 911 turbo from a dealership in studio city but when I had PPI done, here are the results.

Service manager at Mckenna Porsche said there are a few of overrev, but he mentioned it is not a big deal. And also he mentioned the clutch accumulator needs to be replaced ( ~ 700 ), and there is also 2nd gear pop out when he test drove the vehicle.

The 2nd gear is what I worry the most as it could get costly, but to my surprise he says he will not be too concern as overall it is a good clean car.

What would you do? And what are your thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Second gear pop out is MAJOR! Fixing it can be very expensive. Read the thread and then decide. When I bought my car I had to have the clutch accumulator fixed also. There are plenty of cars out there so don't get emotionally tied to this one.

I am wondering how common is this 2nd gear issue on the 911? And is it only in the turbos or it is also a flaw in the c4s as well?

Car is out of warranty? If they can't fix the 2nd gear issue with the deal, I will suggest wait for another one.

Run away. Even if they warranty it (will they?), you know the tranny is toast. Maybe it won't get worse, maybe it will get worse the day after the warranty expires. Unless they're going to repair it before you purchase the car, it's not worth it. If you really gotta have this car, offer them 59k and explain that you have to save the difference for when you have to throw in a new box.

Like a previous poster said, there are a ton of nice cars out there. Go find one that doesn't have any problems, and certainly not one this serious.

59k is way too low. I'd suggest getting them to fix the issues and work out a deal for a warranty, to cover the 2nd gear pop out issue

Stay away from this car... 2nd gear pop out is a $12K job. there are enough P cars our there that u can get without this issue.
Trust I had my tranny replaced for the same problem so I know. Even with warranty they stopped covering it due to driver misuse.

Just buy mine.. It's an 01 but no 2nd gear pop-out issue.. :D

Selling that magnificent turbo? Man, that's one ride the next owner would be happy to have.

I used to live in Vancouver so are you buying this from an authorized Porsche Dealership in Studio City in LA? If you really truly having 2nd gear popout (read the thread and see what you think of the 3 synchro design vs. driving style etc), you are looking at a $5000 independent service to fix the syncros. If you are doing a dealership repair, they replace the entire transmission for about $10-12K.

That price seems incredibly cheap with BBS wheels. So the caution is that they know that if they had to do the repair, they aren't going to make anything on the car. Having been in the market place for original good quality cars for a few years and having purchased one, I think you can DEFINITELY find a better one without these nagging wallet draining issues.

Why would the clutch accumulator need replacement on an 03 ? Are there symptoms ?

Made up my mind.. I will pass on this one. Rather spend a few more bucks or wait for another one that is trouble free. In a way, good thing I did PPI, it definitely give you some more insights. Thank you for the comments guys.

wise move, exactly why a paid a little more for a CPO'ed 03 from the dealer. I had a chance to buy a cheaper model with the same miles for alot less but opted for the CPO'ed. My luck the second I would have signed the papers the cars tranny would have dropped out.

Mne had the 2nd gear issue.

I have the invoice.. it was $14k to fix it. (new tranny)
