Drove this beauty yesterday
SubscribeDon't think I'm leaving the Porsche family yet, but the Gallardo is one awesome supercar. And beautiful. It was a joy to drive - easy to manage and easy to see out of. V10 powerplant - man, what a sweet engine.
Two complaints about the particular one I drove - 1) Damned F1 gearbox, and 2) horribly loud "sport Pipes". I just don't get the F1 gearchange thing. It was pleasant enough for city driving, with smooth changes up and down. But under WOT, I really hated the strange power-off, power-on feel as it changes. And it just removes all the fun of rowing the box and heel-toe rev matching. I totally get the point on a racetrack, but for the road, give me three pedals please. I hope this F1 thing is a passing fad, but sadly I think not.
The car had the "sport pipe" option. Way, way too loud for the street. Sounded just like a racecar - awesome under power at high rpm, but too much after a while. We had to shout at one another when standing outside the idling car.
Overall I found the car an absolute blast and I think it could be easily useable everyday. Reasonably comfortable suspension (softer than the GT3), decent outward vision, light clutch (sat in a manual version), acceptable ground clearance, comfy inside with all the requisite mod-cons, and gorgeous to behold. With Audi reliability, this could give Porsche some real supercar competition.

Must have been a long time ago. I grew up here and Jo'burg's was indeed a beautiful city. Not anymore unfortunately (ok, some of it is). But Cape-Town, that's a beautiful city!Originally posted by wantone

There's also a red Mustang in one of the pics which in itself would not be terribly interesting. But this one is RHD! Did ford build RHD versions? If not, it's a darn good conversion.
I almost cancelled my Porsche order for a Gallardo after driving one. I actually liked the Egear. If there were not so many problems with the Egear I would have bought one. As it stands I am waiting for them to get the bugs out and I'll add one to the garage.
For my birthday saturday i put my name down for one... will take a while but at least i know i am getting one. I finally am getting a lambo
... have heard great reviews of it so far, and i ordered mine w/o the E-Gear option. Cant wait to even test drive this best

I want one sooooooooooooooooo bad...No egear though as I tested both here and did not like downshifitng on the egear...prefer rev matching with a 6-speed
Funny enough - the lambo dealer here called me today to see if I was interested in the only orange one in the country as the person who ordered it changed his mind and just ordered a Murci instead....

TTRon, you're gonna love it. I'm jealous. There's just something about the Gallardo. Whenever I see it in yellow or orange, I just can't help feeling "I gotta get me one of those".
