Question regarding authenticity of a 996tt techart wing
About 5 months ago I sold what I honestly believed to be an authentic techart type 1 wing to a member of this board for 800 dollars. He had a friend of his drive to my home in his lotus elise to pick the item up, if I was in the business of selling replica's would I have given the buyer my home address. I bought the wing for 1400 dollars and sold it at a loss because I had decided not to modify the exterior of my 996tt. Recently, the member I sold it to contacted me stating that he does not think the techart wing I sold him is authentic and he wants a full refund. I guess my question is what should I do?
My feeling is I sold the member what I believed to be an authentic techart type 1 wing and he had someone meet with me face to face to complete the transaction at my house 5 months ago. Five months pass and I get an email out of nowhere accusing me of selling a replica and I just want to see what the board thinks is the best course of action.
Thanks in advance!

So how does he prove or disprove it to be a replica? I agree that five months is a long time to bring up a return, but what did you say in the advertisment? What would you have done if it were 2 weeks and he said the same thing?

if it wasn't painted yet, it has "techart" stamped into it.
i just had mine filled and sanded off. the body guy asked me if i wanted to leave it on there. i told him that when techart starts paying me to use their products i'll be happy to advertise for them. now sand that **** off
5 months later? tell him to go away. what does he want you to do; take it back and issue a refund? sounds like he might have buyer's remorse.

I think the member is wrong for waiting five months to get a refund. That is way out of line in my opinion. People have a responsibility to deal with issues as soon as possible and five months is not ASAP. I would explain the situation to him and hope he understands.

GrettW - I agree to all that 5 months is a little too long to ask for a refund. If you really want to do good on this deal (even you didn’t know the authenticity). I would do a partial refund. The amount that both of you can agree.
Yeah, give him the refund then you can go after the guy that sold it to you for $1400 what, THREE YEARS AGO?
I agree 5 months is to long to expect a flat out refund. Would also be curious as to how he has confirmed it is a replica.

The buyer has some resposibility to check the item out before buying. But the guy should have figured it out after a few days, come on 5 months is BS. Now it's his problem.
Two yrs ago I bought some 'hollow spoke' TT rims from a member for 800, I asked all the questions.....guess what, they were solids. The dude truely had no clue what he was selling, he just assumed that his tt had hollows. Well I needed track rims anyway, 800 is great for hollow and only ok for solids, so I ran em for a yr and flipped them for 750.
5 days is one thing, 5 months is tough ****.

Good Faith Sale
The wing was sold in good faith as an authentic.
The guy who picked it up and inspected it before
transfering the money, served as the buyers agent.
5-7 days after the sale was ample time to confirm
authenticity if it was a concern. I would suggest
that you tell the buyer you have no obligation to
return his money. However (option) if you were to offer a
$600-$700 dollar buyback 15%-25% restocking fee.
I am confident you would be able to sell it again and
more than likely profit from it. Why doesn't he just sell it?
