Anyone installed a Turbo Timer in their car?
Just wondering if anyone had done so.. I know they say it's not necessary but having spoken to Kevin at Alamo Turbos (who lot's of our blue coked K16/24s) I have been thinking about it...
It keeps the car/engine running after you remove the key and "turn off" the car to allow the turbos to cool off properly. Lots of guys in the JDM world use these...but i dont know much about the application to a Porsche.
I have one shark it came with the car to be honest it def does what it needs to but its a PITA cauee u cant lock the doors while its running. So pretty useless but it keeps u there and waiting.

I wait 2 mins because it allows the turbos to cool ...have you not heard of this before? By doing this you are preventing premature ware on the seals and bearings.Allowing the car to cool down will prolong the life of your turbos, its a PIA just sitting there waiting....thats why a turbo timer is the best way to go.....for me anyways.
I usually let my car run for at least 30 seconds before shutting it off, but my understanding was that unless you were driving the car hard right before turning it off you don't really need to let it idle. In fact, I thought that driving the car for a couple of minutes without getting into boost at all was better for cooling off the turbos than sitting there still letting the car idle. I almost always have 2 to 5 minutes of very slow (under 40mph) driving with absolutely no boost as I am pulling into my neighborhood or into the parking deck at my office.
EDIT: Read further and you will see my thinking here was wrong.

Hey you have to cool down those turbochargers for at least 1 minute. Everytime, every condition, every situation. It is the instant heat transfer of 700 plus degrees that cooks the turbine side seal. And in performance mode we are getting more cylinder temps and pressures vs .7bar..
I tell people 2 minutes hoping that they will cool down the units for 2 minutes but realize they might do 1 minute EVERY time.. You can't even drive the car at idle.. Unless you bump the car into neutral and coast into your driveway.. Over two minutes you will start to get heat soak from your headers and muffler..

This is not correct...driving the car will not cool the turbos like idle will (Just ask the guy who rebuilds them...Kevin). Kevin Recommends 1-2 minutes (2 being better) of idle cooling. The only way to cool the turbo is to allow the oil to circulate through them...the second you shut the car off the oil stops circulating.
