NOT driving a 996 Turbo in the winter is a crime. Get some Dunlop Winter Sports (best winter tire ever made IMHO) and you'll be able to drive through just about anything. It does get a little funny when the snow gets above 6" deep and the car starts riding up on the plastic belly pans, but it still works fine. 3 Boston winters in my 996 as a daily driver and it was awesome. It pains me when people talk about putting their Porsches away for the winter.

One note on washing it a lot in the winter, that can actually be bad for the car. Make sure you use only low pressure water. High pressure drives the salt into the cracks and crevices where water tends to also hang around the longest. Porsche galvanizes the heck out of their cars these days so the only thing the salt is really going to harm is the exhaust, and last time I checked nobody really washes under their cars.

I live in Colorado and drive my turbo year round. dont lower the car, put some good snow tires on and take it easy if there is snow on the road (as the power will still cause you to slide a bit) and you should be fine. I dont drive every day for work, but it is my 'daily' driver.

I am shopping for one with every intention of driving it all winter up here in Boston. I'll have two kid seats in the back as well. Not a lot of sports cars you can do that in!

Clearance is better in a Cayenne TT though. I am thinking about getting rid of a couple others and having both.

I said it before and I'll say it again...it ain't me I'm worried about. To watch the other idiots driving in snow is what scares me...and the thought of one of them sliding into my car...Not going to happen!

That would be a sweet pair. I have a 4Runner for when it is truly awful and for Home Depot runs. Going to drive it into the ground for sure.

i've got a customer who drive his Gallardo all year round in Vancouver BC. Even when it snows. He says that it's the only 4wd car he has.

I lived in Vancouver most of my life. It doesn't snow more than once a year and a few inches that melts. It rains. Vancouver is the California of Canada.

That may be the case, but still, a Gallardo in 5-8 inches or snow??

Snow tires and wheels will cost almost as much as a winter beater. Nothing like having some SUV barge come smashing into on an icy road.
