Turbo Snow help!
NOT driving a 996 Turbo in the winter is a crime. Get some Dunlop Winter Sports (best winter tire ever made IMHO) and you'll be able to drive through just about anything. It does get a little funny when the snow gets above 6" deep and the car starts riding up on the plastic belly pans, but it still works fine. 3 Boston winters in my 996 as a daily driver and it was awesome. It pains me when people talk about putting their Porsches away for the winter.
One note on washing it a lot in the winter, that can actually be bad for the car. Make sure you use only low pressure water. High pressure drives the salt into the cracks and crevices where water tends to also hang around the longest. Porsche galvanizes the heck out of their cars these days so the only thing the salt is really going to harm is the exhaust, and last time I checked nobody really washes under their cars.

Hey guys, I have a great opportunity to buy a 996 2001 turbo will 3k miles in mint condition. however in all seriousness, if one was to put snow tires on a 996 tip turbo, could it be driven in the winter? I live in down town Chicago and if i buy this turbo it will by my daily and only driver.
now i understand in a blizzard or in a bad snow this wold be insane, i just mean day in and day out. any help or input would be appreciated.

Clearance is better in a Cayenne TT though. I am thinking about getting rid of a couple others and having both.
I said it before and I'll say it again...it ain't me I'm worried about. To watch the other idiots driving in snow is what scares me...and the thought of one of them sliding into my car...Not going to happen!

That would be a sweet pair. I have a 4Runner for when it is truly awful and for Home Depot runs. Going to drive it into the ground for sure.
That may be the case, but still, a Gallardo in 5-8 inches or snow??
If one has enough $$$ for a Gallardo, what a few days of limo service when there is 5-8 in of snow!
