Recap of our small 6Speedonline Pocono Track Day WITH PICTURES!
Pocono Track Day
Well, I finally took the KPVTT to the track. It was actually five of us from 6Speed, myself, Michele (PorscheBabe) Tony and Jeremy from PES Tuning and Lincoln (Pieball). We also saw Anton from 6speed as well but he came separately. Of the five of us, Tony had the most experience and brought their amazing VW Scirocco. This thing rips up the track and Tony is an outstanding driver. His reputation precedes him. I had the next best track experience. I actually started back in 1984-ish as best as I can recall. Michele, Jeremy and Lincoln were first timers driving on the track.
Tony instructed Jeremy and I instructed Michele. At the end of the day, Jeremy said he is hooked!! That is so cool! With regard to Michele, her run group was back to back with my advanced run group so it was always back to back switching of cars as well. First her driving her car with me as a passenger and then me driving my car with her as a passenger. She showed ENORMOUS improvement by the end of the day. Remember......SMOOTH!!! I think we created a new track junkie. By the end of the day she was on line, smoother, more confident and better able to see the limits of her car. I had the opportunity to do a final few laps with her car at the end of the day and I must say it is one sweet ride!! Everything responds and handles really well. She has the Cargraphic coilovers and had 18's on for the track although she normally runs 19's. All in all, I was very impressed with the handling of her car......and her driving!!
I was waiting for a good opportunity to really test out my car and this was it. Since it was the KPVTT's first track day I was a little easy at first but then I got drawn in really quickly. All I have to say is Holy Mother of God!!!
I was amazed at the handling of the car. Once the Yokos heated up you couldn't budge them off line!! The car's power was astounding as I would rocket away from others on the straights. Stephen thank you!! I was untouchable on the straights!!
I have the PSS-9's set to 1 all around and have to say it really worked flawlessly on the track.
I played around with PSM a little as well. There is one hairpin before which I would turn PSM off. I would track through the turn and upon exit, nail the throttle and the whole car would go into a four wheel drift!! I was loving it!! My passenger thought that was pretty cool as well. PSM back on once I straightened it out though. I didn't want to get too out of hand!
My biggest fear about bringing the car was the rock and stone damage. I used the SpeedLingerie bra and a condom.
Yeah, you heard me......a condom (albeit a slightly different type than you all are thinking of!!!). But that, my friends, is a topic for another story.

Ken:
Fantastic!
How did the car condom hold up? I bought mine and plan to use it on my E55 this weekend. OK guys, it's a big sheet of self adhesive plastic, similar to low tack racers tape, 30" wide so you can wrap everything (not any air vents or door/hood seams please).
Where are the pictures with your $8MM camera? (Yes that was said with green envy.)

Chris,
It really was a great day....I have to do this again really soon.
Tim,
The condom held up really well. What a fablulous product!!! THe pictures I will post later will clearly show what the installation looks like. At $25/roll, how can you NOT get it!!
With the time on the track and the instruction, I left the picture taking to others. I received them and will be posting a few later tonight.

Bill,
The high speed instability was a result of the rears collecting some toe out between the install time and the realignment. THat is now corrected. We added a little more toe-in in the front and that was it for the alignment. The real clincher was setting the dampers at full hard. We went from 3F2R to 8F7R to finally 1F1R. It is not perfect for all conditions but it sure shined yesterday!!! I love driving this car!!!!

Hey Ken,
Sounds like you all had a great time. Tell us more about the plastic wrap/condom. What is it called and where did you get it from? I am heading to Sebring this weekend with a few other 6speeders, I think we may all be interested in some additional coverage.

Call Joe at 973.253.3900 on Wednesday and have him ship it to you. He is at Watkins Glen Monday and Tuesday but I am sure he can have it in your hands in time if you call Wednesday. It comes in 30 inch x 20 foot rolls. Great stuff!!

Let me start by saying that I am finally starting to come down from the experience..... Such a rush!
I left the Hotel all excited, couldn't wait for the day to begin.. I followed Ken & Jeremy from the hotel early that morning to the track.. And the games began - I hit my high speed before I got to the track 150-mph - my car was so sure footed, I didn't even feel it. I just happened to look down.. Ken & Jeremy you guys are a bad influence on me LOL
We get to the track, Tony from PES and Lincoln (pieball) are waiting for us... I see the track, all the hot cars. I start to take it in realizing that this time I need to learn and drive..and the butterflies start. Oh Boy what did I get myself into??????????
I've been to Watkins Glenn with a buddy and had the privilege of being the passenger of many different instructors with amazing Porsches. I was jumping in & out of Porsches those two days...
The best ride that time was in a GT2 hitting 160mph on the straight and 120mph in turn 1 on street tires... That was wild!
This time I had to drive and had no clue! Thank G-d for my reinforcement .... After I signed-in it was class time.. In the midst of taking notes and being a good student one of the staff members walk in and explain that we have extra time if we need it because someone crashed and they were waiting for the helicopter to arrive.. my heart stopped as I knew Tony and Ken were on the track because they were in the experienced class. I found out it wasn't them, then thought to myself that I must have lost my mind to be there...............(They told us later that the guy was going to be fine but his car was totaled)
Class finally finished up and I went to go find the boys...
As Ken has stated, in his bravery he was my instructor.. We went over some key points and then we were staging... I was nervous but ready. I had all my protective gear on me and my condom on my car..
First time out was not very pretty.. a little nervous. lots of turns and just a C2 no PSM (for those of you that don't know, I spun my car out already in the street.) Came off the track and was ready for more.. After a couple of pointers from my instuctor. Now it was my turn to ride in the KPVTT with Ken at the wheel. One word DAMN! Once the tires heated up, it was on! Handling in the turns, he found the lines and accelerated on the straight.... He was hitting it and I was loving it! (I need more training) Yes Ken ...SMOOTH... I know, at least you practice what you preech!
By the way - Yes I loved the exit on the hairpin!
Lincoln was in my group, so I wasn't able to watch him.. But every time he came off the track there was a BIG GRIN on his face!
Confidence level was up and I was really.. after a few laps in the second session, I started to find the lines... When I hit the APEX right it felt right.. I come off all pumped and ready for more but have to wait my turn.... Mean while Tony from PES was on FIRE flying around the track out handling cars in the turns... The car was set-up!
Ken took my car out and I was the passenger... It was great to see someone with some skills showing me what my car could do!
Then I went with Tony.. Oh boy talk about intense.. He is one hell of a driver as well.. The car is a rough ride but I gotta tell ya I was loving it!
I can't thank the guys enough for all their help and sharing their experience and talent with me .. They were great and couldn't imagine a better group to hit the track the first time with...
By the way my car came home without a scratch
Thanks to the wrap!

Re: What an AMAZING Experience!
Be careful now... track events are just as addictive as modding your car. Sounds like you all had a really good time.
Have I got a race car for you...
