Suspension advice?

My car has the older H&R coilovers installed about Jan-Feb 2002. My mechanic just raised the car a bit but said that was it due to design of the suspension. It got me to thinking of how much better from a street-driving perspective some of the newer suspensions out there are. I don't think my car will ever see the track, so a bit softer ride and a little more height than I have would be what I'm after. My current height from level ground to the mid-point of the well arch is 25 3/8 front and 25 1/8 rear. I'm running 19's with 315/25 rear and 235/35 front. My mechanic suggested I could go to a tire with a higher profile to raise the height and also soften it a bit. I'm just concerned over doing that and then rubbing b/c i can't raise the car any more. Any opinions on the suspension and any advice on what tire size might work in his idea? TIA

I'm a little rusty, but what is the X73? Is it the ROW set-up?

Its alot stiffer and lower. You might want to go with the pss9 for the streets. Contact Lucent Motors. Great prices, great mechanics.

The X73 is an optional Porsche suspension in Europe, its more aggressive and lower than the ROW, it is available throught Gert at CARNEWAL and its a great balance for street and track use.

Justin, maybe we'll hook up over the next few weeks. I think Rave has put a different suspension on his car, so maybe a (swap) meet.

Do I understand the current setup correctly? Is the front of the car 1/4" higher in the front? The rake needs to be lower in the front. I would recommend PSS-9's even if you don't track b/c you can set the car height higher or lower while it is fairly easy to change the settings on the piston at home.

I believe the car is dead level, even though the height measurement levels indicate otherwise. The mechanic told me this was what the correct set-up should be. Even if a little front rake IS desireable, in my case it would worsten the lip clearance. If I can gain some clearance without rubbing by increasing the sidewall height, it won't be much. I don't understand why the H&R is so limiting, but maybe that's why they were improved. If I do change, it would be to one that gave me the freedom to go from stock to where I am now and in between.
As for Hummer Bill, you know I only change after I've thought it through for a while. I've owned the car for a year and a half, which may be half of the time it will spend here. I think spending a few bucks to make it more useable might be worth it in the long run.

red devil, you sound way too sensible for this group of modaholics. Either that or the modders just talk the most. The only reason I asked about rake is b/c when you gas it, the car has a subtle tendency to squat, and a dead level 911 will nose up a tad with brisk acceleration. This might lead to stability issues. I don't think there is any worry you're going to go "GT-1 at Road Atlanta (fly up and flip over)" or anything, but you might notice a wiggle or a noise. If you haven't had any problems then that is great. Just trying to help with the persuit of perfection.

Actually, websites are the root of all evil when it comes to modifications. That is, I blame them for the modifications I have done, purchased or will do in the future. I admire from arm's length those early-adaptors who blaze their own (modifying) path.

red devil,
you can not increase the height of the side wall unless you plan on rubbing you radiator. pss9 would be your only real option.

Please explain. I haven't looked inside the well but would really shudder to think that this was the item most likely to rub. (PS, I'm not lazy, the car isn't here for me to look)

You can't compare front/rear wheel arch heights to assess chassis levelness . There is a 7mm difference in wheel arch to suspension arm reference point distance comparing front and rear suspensions. That's why factory specs for ride height are set at reference points on the suspension arms, not wheel arches , esp since body panel fit can affect that even more.

The way the car visually sits and the way the chassis is set up are two different things.
