Talking FS: Fabspeed Bypass Pipes

Im the 2nd owner of these-- Ill have pictures tonight
I put them on last august and drove maybe 1k miles on them--yes 1000 -its sad I just dont drive my car enough (7900 on 3.5 yrs old)

Have clamps and will ship to continental US.
Fitment is 996 narrow bodied cars.
Installation is a piece of cake-maybe an hour -ive done it 3 times.
Asking $300 shipped or im in the NYC metro area.

Your car will sound like a GT Cup car.

Warning -- These are loud as there is no muffler on your car and they save weight --for whats thats worth as i could stand to lose 30 or so pounds so it would be a wash in savings)
check www.fabspeed.com for more details.

Thanks
Mike

thats true. obviously it depends on the person... theyre about as loud as say an american muscle car at start up. they do have a lot of resonance and are very loud when you get on it...

next question- what is the legal status of these... 50 state? no way they are "for highway use", or are they?
sounds like an easy enough swap to get the smog done...
hmm...

Don't know about legal status here in Cal., but I had seen and heard on So. Cal streets & freeways.

This is a muffler bypass and not cat. bypass so no effect on smog check issue.

These are the ones you want to have if you want muffler bypass. I removed my mufflers and had some "home made ones" to try out for sound and after 300 miles I could not stand them anymore. I then missed the sound and re did the exchange. Same thing: after a while, they become a tad unbearable for daily driving. Some can live with it, some can't. That said, when you are in a tunnel, or even in a nice stretch (no traffic of course....) and floor it past 4K rpms, its just glorious. You will purposely want to heel and toe to hear the sound. Just incredible. For every day, well, not too sure there. Some claim to be able to put mufflers back and forth in less than 30 minutes. I don't see how...

Anyone looking to buy the MUFFLER bypass pipes but unsure about how pissed the wife will be when she hears how loud your pcar is can simply drive the car up on some 2x4's (to get the clearance), unhook the two bolts and clamps for each muffler, take your beater and go to PepBoys, spend $14 on two elboe pipes, clamp them in and under an hour you can get a feel for the bypass setup. Drive around the block and watch the reactions. My wife wanted to strangle me which made me love the noise even more. I call BS on whoever said they are "quiet until you jump on it". THey are obmoxious, but get the attention you want. Everyone around you wants to know wtf you have under the hood. Personally, it was the best part about the pcar.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. Buy these from this guy.

I agree with Tshack. they are NOT quiet at all at any time. My wife refused to get into the car with them on. I got a headache after a 2 hour highway drive doing 3-4K rpms all the time (heck, I would even put it in neutral at times to catch a breath once in a while!) That said, when you have the "need for speed", nothing comes close.

You can DIY build baffles to add a little tameness back to muffle bypass pipes. I've been experimenting with several differnet styles for the last 6 months with varying degress of success. Baffles will knock the harsh blahty sound down quite a bit, but no way you'll ever confuse this setup with any muffler. On the other hand, you loose ~40 lbs off the vary back where its most benefitcial.

In my case in-town MPG (daily driver) went up from about 19 to 21; feels like more low-end torque at drive away, but then you're also encouraged to shift earlier most of the time to avoid too much attention... Highway MPG dropped from 26.5 to about 25. I attribute this to the greater airflow at ~3K RPM requiring additional fuel to maintain target A/F ratio.

I have these as well as a few other "performance" exhaust systems.

The by-pass pipes go on (yes it can be done in under an hour) for every track event, as long as I'm not driving the car there. The sound at WOT is intoxicating. However, after driving from MI to Road America and back this year, there is no way in hell I would leave them on for daily driving.

I too have experimented with many different baffles/matting, etc. to tame this down as well as the other systems I have...no joy on any.

In the end, I opted to put the stock system back on for daily driving and I will put the by pass pipes on for track days.
