Help do a list on maintenance costs.....
Help do a list on maintenance costs.....
How about we do a list on the maintenance costs for 996? This list may help both owners and potential buyers.
I was thinking the format to be:
year and type
item
$
dealer or P-car shop
location
I will start:
01 C2
oil change
$150
P-car shop
Los Angeles
10/31/07
I am surprised at how few replies to this thread. I would think many owners will help put this list together.
Maybe if you need to know these things then you shouldn't be driving one?

We will just hope actual owners will post here.
00 C2 996 - Supercharged.
Oil change : $35 - Jiffy lube.
Take your own oil and filter. Worth getting a filter wrench for them too, the monkeys don't usually have something that fits.
AutoZone sell 996 oil filters for $14 if I remember correctly.
Mine has been to my local guys 5 or 6 times now and never once any hassle.
I take my fcar there too.
:-)
Changing oil is not rocket science, I'd do it myself but I can't be bothered scuffling around under there burning my damn fingers and then having to get rid of the old oil.

simon,
Thanks for the info.
Just to clarify, Jiffy Lube is $35 labor plus cost of oil and filter.
Some people would not take their cars to Jiffy Lube (the likes) due to their up sale and not due what they suppose to do. As it's taped by TV station. You are OK with it?
What about the prices for other maintenance items?

Here is what I have had to endure in the last 18 months for a 24K mile car when purchased (30K miles now). I knew that it was a tad on the rough side, but never in my dreams did I think it would need these many repairs. Please note that the labor prices are here in Panama for non dealer mechanics (yet Porsche factory trained people). The large number before the $ amount is my mileage in kilometers. Add to this a MAF sensor that is dead (±$300) and a failed key remote (±$200). Now you will understand why I want to get rid of this car.....

GOB man at first I was reading and was like oh ok he's just replacing stuff just because. Kept going and wow. All that within a few months. The car still looks good though.
The prices are far off from what I expected. They are cheaper. The price to do a clutch job is around the price for a clutch for a Neon. Yes I did say that and it is true.

Spec, yes, labor charges are less down here than in the US, that is why I pointed it out on the original post, but the parts costs are the same in the US than in Panama (save for the international shipping fees and the ±30% import duties). Now, to make US salary down here, that is an entirely different subject altogether ;-) My car looks pretty nice from 10 feet away, but it still has some issues pending (MAF, key remote, odd water filtration when it rains, cosmetic stuff, etc.). Me, I just learned that its better to get one that is already sorted out instead of a cheap one that needs repairs (at the end, the repairs plus cheap initial price will be more than an equivalent car in similar or better shape). I have reached the conclusion that I like my car very much, but the road conditions and the "variable maintenance expense account" for this particular car is too much for me. Once I sell this one, I will be looking for another thing, in the mean time, I will enjoy it, albeit always thinking "what else can go wrong?!"
Dim n Slow has a spread sheet of all his expenses for his 996. I'll get him to post it here. GOB you list of work and pricing seems really reasonable to me. In California I had the coolant expansion tank replaced and it was over $400. The RMS replacement I had done which is similar labor to the clutch you had done was $1200. The labor rate in The San Francisco Bay Area is around $125/hr.
