Getting new engine from dealer

Wow, talk about a suprise....had the 996 towed to Pfaff for a strange rattle in engine area yesterday...today the service mgr calls to let me know a new engine is on its way from Germany...

Apparently an internal flange needle bearing broke and Porsche felt better about giving me a new engine then tearing the existing one apart...

So...car is an 02 Targa with 18,500 km on it (12k miles for my American friends)

Will this positively affect my resale value in a few years?
Will they replace the clutch as well ?
Anything I should look out for or ask?

As thing are I am very very happy with the service at Pfaff here in Toronto, its so much better then my 7 years of BMW/MB experience, night and day....

Feedback is appreciated!

new engine

I am been there to many times. They will not replace the clutch but the whole exhaust system does get replaced (at least on mine) I don't think it affects the resale either way. The plus of a new engine is taken away by the originality factor. However don't worry and enjoy.

i think it does hurt resale value. Good luck suing for diminished value.

If I were buying your car at say 15Kmi. I'd probably be happy the engine replaced at 12Kmi. only had 3Kmi. instead of the full 15K. I would however worry that someone had raced or otherwise beat the hell out of the car to break the original engine in the first place. Having just bought a slightly used 996 (5000mi.) I didn't think to even ask them if the engine had been replaced. Naive maybe, just never crossed my mind.

Porsche dealer will be tgiving me a letter which states that the engine was replaced due to manafacturing defect.

I'll sell it back to them in a few years for a 2005 Turbo anyway !

Looking forward to getting it back

Got a beautiful Cayenne as a loaner..my wife loves it so it looks like the X5 is history
