Lightweight flywheel performance improvement - Although its based on 2 Z06 vettes.
There has been some discussion and controversy about light weight flywheel performance.
I think this article is the best unbiased one I have read. It compares power to the wheels that you can expect upgrading to a light weight flywheel.

On most cars yes, its a no brainer...I'd love to see a 996 tested in the same way....It seems that if it was THAT easy to get performance, Porsche wold offer a LWFW option, charge a ton of money for it and clean up.....Just like on most cars, Headers are a no brainer to increase HP, but in 996's headers make LESS power in real world situations than the stock headers....and if any gains are made, its at the top of the powerband while the low end will show losses....While I think the LWFW would be a performance upgrade, what are the real world negatives?
I agree, for every mod from stock, there is a downside associated with it. And on these message boards, it is hardly ever talked about. No first hand experience on 996. But on my previous car with LWFW, I know that the clutch engagement is a bit more tricky (doesn't bother me), and the ECU didn't respond well if it was ever reset (disconnected battery). It will take 10 min or so for it to relearn and idle at the proper RPM.
Again, the above didn't bother me, but it might bother other ppl.
I do believe LWFW is one of the best mods for N/A cars out there. Its just not the "increase" in hp, but its also the characteristic on how the engine accelerates.

I love my LWFW! It rattles at idle a little but not too bad, and it is still really easy to drive.

Sharkwerks put one on their 996, but no dyno or specific performance gains mentioned. They have a link to a sound clip of one on a 997.
