Hi Guys I have been lurking here for a couple years and figured it was time for a formal introduction. I am curretly rebuilding a 99 996 with a LSD, Billy Boat mufflers & headers, EVO CAI, RSS plenum, GIAC flash, PSS9s, B&M SSK, and polished 18 inch Turbo Twists. The car had a dash fire and I am documenting the rebuild on Rennlist under the name Mfletch. I am deleting the airbag system and dropping weight wherever possible to turn it into a open track/street toy. I have a factory aero kit to install and I just puchased a Momo steering wheel & some aluminum pedals. The purple car is one I previously rebuilt and just sold. The blue car is my current project.
I previously had a Fox body Saleen with tons of suspension mods, half cage, and a 420hp stroker motor. I built it for open track events, but only got to run it about a half dozen times. I love Thunderhill. Do any of you have advice on additional mods, prior to running it on the track? Also, I would love to get some instruction at Thuderhill, behind the wheel. Any advice on when and where? I realize the most important mod that I need to work on is my driving abilities (or lack thereof). Thanks for any advice, Mark.

Mark, Welcome...so the dash must be back in if the steering is back on, have you fired (sorry, couldnt help it) her up yet? You should video tape that when you do... again, you da man. Keep us posted

As for the track, there is a track section on the forum if you want specific info....just get in there and get some seat time... you're gonna love it.

Hi Redridge, I have a good days worth of work before I fire her up. It will be fun to video the occasion. I sold the factory steering wheel to a fellow rennlister and I ordered the GT3 cup car wheel a couple days ago.
I can't wait to try it on the track. My previous car was overpowered (if that's possible) and had terrible brakes. The Shelby Club was alot of fun at the open track events. I'm looking forward to hanging out with fellow Porsche fanatics.
I wish you were closer... I would beg you for a ride around the track in your toy. You saved me some money this week, thanks. I was tempted to buy the wheels exlondoner has for sale. Your pictures convinced me that the polished turbo twists will look great with the aero kit.
I hope you & your family had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year.

BoxterGirlie, thank you. I am going to need to replace the clutch soon after I get the car on the road. I am very interested in the LWFW. How do you like it?

Hi Newport, thanks for the welcome. I'm sorry to see you are selling your beautiful 996. Anything fun on the horizon? I recently got my wife an 05 Range Rover to replace our 99 SVC supercharged Range Rover. It definately is not a substitute for the 996. Are you having any luck selling? It took me a while to sell the vesuvio 996. I still haven't sold the 99 Rover or an 03 BMW 330i that was my temporary car while I'm rebuilding the iris blue 996. The market appears to have slowed down...lots of low ball offers. Good Luck with yours, Mark.

mfletch,

we are very happy with the lwfw. the only reason we got ours is that it was time for a clutch replacement as well. the hubby drives the 996, but when we've switched pcars....i am totally jealous of the fw! it does make a difference in the pull from gear to gear!

when my clutch finally decides to take a hike.....i will be getting the lwfw as well. there is a little chatter at low rpm's or at an idle, but nothing you won't get used to.

i highly recommend it! we'd never go w/out one now!

good luck and keep posting those pics!

Mother, thanks for the information. Happy New Year to you and your family. I hope your supercharger issues are all resolved.
Boxtergirlie, Thanks for taking the time to post the information on the LWFW. Once I get the car on the road, I can't wait to upgrade to it. It sounds like fun. When I behave myself, my wife and I swap cars also. It is a treat getting to drive a convertable occasionally. Her car doesn't corner like a Porsche, but in a straight line... it's a rocket. Thanks again, Mark.
