CF or 993 style Hood
CF or 993 style Hood
Has anybody installed a CF hood or a 993 look alike hood in fiberglass? Any Thoughts? I have also seen a custom modified factory steel hood modified to look like a 993.

My recommendation is 993 fiber glass style hood because its more durable. Carbon Fiber will be more beneficial if it is painted because the weather will affect the integrity and quality of the carbon fiber during a period of time.
see my sig for pic.
if you want a 993 style hood..might as well get fiberglass...the weight savings over the stock aluminum hood is negligible.
the cf looks nice, but you might get tired of it quick. good thing is that it is very durable and scratch risiliant when unpainted.

there is a seller of them on Ebay (xtrememotorcars)
I've seen a factory Gemballa hood in person (did about
6 hours of bodywork on it to make it perfectly straight).
It was made of carbon fiber, but I dunno... REALLY wavy.
I heard 2nd hand, that Cargraphics was having many ill-fitting Gemballa 996 hoods... and they seemed to be getting worse.
$2500 for that hood, no?

that guy on ebay is a clown! and yes the hood takes time for it to fit.
What started me on this path was, during my last trip to CA I saw a factory steel hood that had been moded to look like the Gembella CF hood. The mod looked very clean and the fact that it was a factory hood should eliminate the fit issues. The cost of the hood was also very reasonable. Once I started to consider this upgrade I thought I should look at the other hoods available and possible weight savings. I think the 993 hood looks sharp but I remain on the fence, due to the fact that I also want to upgrade my suspension. Thanks for all the feedback

when you email a guy and call him how many times and does not respond back to you that makes you a clown;o)
