Question Check Engine Light -drive to shop

I have a 2002 C4S with 37,00 miles. I had a major service done a couple of weeks ago. The Check Engine Light-Drive to shop light came on a couple a few times but would immediately go off.

Today, on the way home , it came on and stayed on. I let the car sit for a while just to see what happens. It now stays on when I start the car.

I obviously will call the shop tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone else has had a similar experience and posssible causes?

Thanks!

You could also make sure the air filter is installed correctly - the dealer had mine in wrong and I got the same series of CELs.

There are so many possibilities. Get the codes read (stealer or autozone or your own reader). Disconnect the battery to reset and see if it comes back.

I bought myself a cheapo $100 meter from the Pep Boys. It's been worth it's weight in gold.

Thanks for the input

I did check the gas cap. No change. I sent Alex at SharkWerks an email and I will take the car in on Monday to read codes. He thinks it Sounds like it could be a cat inefficiency code (o2 sensors) or something simple like that.

it could be a lot of different things.... Go to your nearest AutoZone, ask for the OBDII reader, plug it to your car (left down part of dashboard plug) read the codes and write them down. With that number you can know exactly was wrong with the car.

FYI: a flashing CEL engine is something bad enough that could damage your cats... just a steady light could be one of 1000's of symptoms easily identified with a code reader. You don't need to pull over and call a tow truck like my friend did when his check engine light lit up once.

pj is spot on here.

On the gas cap...even if you tighten it after it has thrown a CEL, the CEL won't go away...it needs to be reset.

As stated before me, get a generic code reader...it isn't as in depth as dealer software, but it will point you in the right direction.
