used 996 vs new corvette

Given the choice between a similar valued used loaded 996 and new base model corvette, what would you drive? Some Porsche pros: Porsche prestige and German fit and finish. Some Corvette pros: Horsepower, torque, and new car warranty. My wife thinks the Corvette is a "redneck" car and wouldn't be caught in one. I know this is a Porsche forum, so don't be too harsh on the American muscle car!

Test drive them both, and buy what you want. Forget what your wife thinks. If you like the Corvette, she will get over being married to a redneck.

CLASSIC...lol...My wife is the same way...when looking at cars recently, I mentioned a few American cars, she said..."uh...NO!"....ended up with a Lexus...I know people always say this about cars, and say"new car warranty"...but in this day and age of "Certified Pre-Owned"...you get the SAME warranty on a used car. So dont let that be a reason you dont buy a used car. Porsche actually has a GREAT warranty....2 years ON TOP of the original warranty...so if you buy a 1 year old car..you get the remaining warranty plus 2 years and up to 100,000 miles...so you buy a cheaper car and get a longer warranty. Tell her that, she will think you are being very wise and she may let you spend a little more money, then get an 04 TT...lol...Good luck.

Vette Vs. 911

The corvette is a nice car, but in the end you can't go wrong with a Porsche 911. Having owned a original 1995 ZR1 I can honestly say I am all Porsche nowadays. Even with the new ZR1 hitting the roads I wouldn't pick one up before getting a new 997. Yes American cars have come a long way, but you can't argue how fast they depreciate on the open market. A Porsche will always have the same balance and lines, but it seems a Corvette is always trying to change it's looks to out do their last model. Porsche will always be a Porsche..In the end a vette is still a Chevy..

The C6 is an awesome car for the money...and I have owned 5 911's over the years but the new C6 is a great car and will outperform 996's and 997's.....go Corvette.....screw prestige and holier than thou!

Put American & German aside. Write down the pros. & cons. of owning either car. Look at reliability, cost of ownership, value, depreciation, not to forget fun to drive and pride of owning a car that you love.

Actually, I like Asahi best . . . But I agree with previous post to drive both. The choice was really obvious back when I did. The Corvette takes off really fast, but just feels heavy when cornering. I know they have a great G force rating, but still feels heavy. The 996, however, felt like a sports car! (So I bought it)

I was hot and heavy on the trail of buying a new vette until I pulled into my golf course and there sat my 01 996 cab c4. I asked who's it was and bought it from him on the spot. I love this car! I looks sick! I like the looks of Vetts, but love the look of Porsche. I know my car isn't a turbo or super fast but it is on rails in the corners. I will track it quite a bit this year and then put the top down and drive home. No matter where I go this car is noticed and someone always comes up to me. I wanted a porsche so I got one. Your decision.

Mike

when i started car hunting i was all over the map. the new dodge sport sedans look all retro and dick tracy, and are begging to be tricked out. the new shelby mustang cobra is hot. the new vettes are crazy fast. i like the lexus IS350 and SC430, they are real smooth -- now they have the IS F. and what's not to like about the BMW 335i.

then my wife said, "don't you want a sports car? buy a porsche." god i love that woman.
