Engine Chips or Upgraded Air Intakes....
Anyone using a chip or upgraded air intake on their car? My engine compartment is bone stock on my car. I was just wondering what after market options I have in that area. The car is plenty fast, but since I have access to a race shop and engine builder, I was looking to modify a few simple things in the engine department...
ECU reflashing is only work well and most bang for your bucks if you upgrade your exhaust with headers, cats, mufflers, intake, plenum. Intake alone will only give your engine more air to breath.
As long as it's an individual tune, and not some generic, pre-programmed reflash, you will get more out of it if you wait until after you've added a few mods.
On my old mustang I uploaded a generic tune from a hand-held reprogrammer and saw some gains (this was with my exhaust and intake mods); however, I took it to a professional shop and had the guy tune a chip specifically for my car and got about 9 more horsepower than I was getting with the generic one. He spent his time with it, but the proof was in the dyno graphs he showed me. Only way to go IMO.
Is this what most porsche tuners do, or do they usually just have a preset tune they use on everyone?

i got the softronic ECU tune for my boxsterS. then when i got my C4S, scott at softronic agreed to upgrade me as long as i flashed to boxsterS back to stock. not a problem; i was gonna flash it back to stock before trade-in anyway.
on boxsterS the tune made a noticeable difference in low end torque and throttle response. on the C4S, the tune shows up as throttle response; the car revs *really* fast.
sad thing is, i think softronic may have gone out of business because i can't get in touch with scott. bummer. he's a good guy.

first mod I did to my C2 was adding the K/N intake kit. I would not say it gave me any HP increase by itself, but the sound was just awesome. Still quiet at idle but just rips at WOT. Great sound.
