What's the story behind the intermediate shaft bearing problem?

From what I've read, it breaks...you hear a clattering sound, then experience catastrophic engine failure. As with any issue of this sort, there's nothing conclusive.

I only brought it up because it's probably a good idea to have it looked at/upgraded while the clutch is already out.

It makes sense DJ. More of an insurance policy for sure, just like replacing the RMS
