I repaired mine yesterday

I did it without removing the center console. Took about 30 mins.

"PN 996 552 960 01 Retrofit/Repair kit for broken center console oddments tray cover"

My local dealer happened to have 1 kit left in stock - $36. You can find the kit cheaper on the internet.

are the rivets necessary, or does someone else have another solution (avoiding buying a rivet gun......that said, i've also told myself a few times, a rivet gun would be cool to have....

I bought a rivet gun for this and now I'm trying to find something else that needs riveting. Lowes has them for about $30.

Btw, the updated hinge comes with the proper rivets.
