Gauge Face change?

I'm swapping out my OEM gauge face to an Aluminum look. Removed the Cluster and finally got the little plastic black rings to release the face plate. (What a pain-But discovered a easy way to remove) Do I need to get my cluster recalibrated? I've been really careful in returning the needles to their original position. Thanks. Will post pics later. Maybe a write up if there isn't one already.

I don't think there is a good write up on this. I've seen the question come up many times with the answers usually akin to "good luck with that, I wouldn't try it".

I did it on my '99 C4. You have to take some before pictures to get the needles back in teh right position. Also you need to have a full tank of gas so the needle is as high as possible. Think I also took a pic at 1000rpm and 2000rpm to get calibration. Then it's trial and error. Needles losely positioned, start car up and check and keep doing until they match your pictures again. Then carefully put everything back together. Once mine was back together I noticed my speed registered aprox 5mph less on the dial then on the digital display

A DIY write up on this would be very cool.

Anyone out there knows how to recalibrate speed sensor? I think my cluster is showing that I'm going faster then what I really are.

You'll find that true for almost all cars. If you compare your speedo to a GPS speed you'll see the GPS speed is slower than your speedo.
