Question Trying to understand the 997 frenzy...

I'm sorry I just don't "get" the frenzy regarding the 997 exterior styling (I do get the rejection of the 997 interior).

It seems to me that, other than the headlights, the 997 profile is in between the narrow- and wide-body 996s. It just seems the "revolutionary", new 993-like 997 coke bottle shape has been available for the past 3 years-you just had buy a C4S or Turbo to get it. Some people prefer the narrow body design, others like the wide-body design-why did Porshe feel offering both was not a good strategy?

Am I missing something or do I need new glasses?

Do we know that the 997 Turbo won't have a wider body?

I'm glad I just bought a GT3 -- not wild about Porsche going back to VW Beetle, er, 993 headlights.

Car doesn't look bad per se, but I prefer the current look. I'll wait for the 998 or 999.

Ahh... like the 996, I think almost all the nay-sayers will end up with a 997. What's not to like? Its a 996, only better.

The 997 is what the 996 should of been in 1999.

Maybe I'll change my mind after I see one, but to me the interior looks like an overworked Lexus, not a cutting edge sports car. (but I also missed my 993TT when I got an early 996TT. The latter seemed more like an appliance, and I didn't regret flipping it)

I fully agree: it's a better car in many respects. Bigger engine, moe HP, more torque, better gearbox, suspension, interior quality, etc...
What I object to is the look from the front. It looks just like a VW Beetle!!

The 997 is just another step in the evolution of the porsche.

We got your message that you don't like the 996...so why did you buy one?

Because it was the newest Porsche out and was a good driver with a better ride. If you remember my message, you would recall I only did not like the looks all that much but still said the 996 is a good car. This is what I answered in the post you are referring to. If you forgot what I wrote, I'm happy to repeat myself for you again. I did not think that Porsche would do a retro 993/996 look. I'm sure glad they did. Time will tell if the 996 will become the 964.
The good news is that yesterday I found a buyer for mine.

I didn't forget anything, you said in a previous post that the 996 was the red headed stepchild of porsches, and also you were not clear on the reason you purchased one,(although I may have missed something). I'am glad you found a buyer for your car, that should make you feel better. We'll all be looking forward to seeing your 997.

C. Hopefully the new buyer doesn't read all your negative comments on your previous posts about the 996. P.S. good luck
with the 997, can't wait to see it.

I doubt I will end up with a 997, I just bought an 04, and that will probably be my last new Porsche. What's not to like..........How about the RMS issue, is that resolved? If so then maybe it is better than the 996. But just because they put 993 headlights and the Cayenne interior in it, doesn't make it better in my eyes.
