I will say this, I had no idea they were excluded from the CA lawsuit...

Very weird. I guess its the 3.4l motors that were excluded then?

I believe it was related to the age of the car, ten years or more not included.

Yes. It seems the dual row bearings lasted longer, or at least had significanly fewer problems than the single bearing design. The 3.4 does have the dual bearings. Mine has 90K now, and no IMS issues. I have heard many of the 3.4's going well over 100K miles without IMS issues.

Porsche quoted the 99-2000 had "far less than 1%" IMS issues. Not so for the single row design.

They did say older that 10 years or 130K were excluded, but the dual bearing design was not a failure prone issue. Only the single row. Not the Turbo 911's either as they have a different assembly.

This is true but I thought that the 2000 c2 and c4 models had single row... is this not true?

The dual row bearings are on model years 1997-1999 and some 2000-2001, the single row bearing on model years 2002-2004 and some 2000-2001, and the updated M-97 “big bearing” on model years 2005-2008.

I'm not exactly sure which of the "some" were and were not equipped with the dual bearings. I'm guessing the VIN numbers may steer you in the right direction.

Ok, my vin is not in that collection which kind of leaves me curious. I wonder if there is a more concrete way to find out. Not that it will make me care more or less, but would be nice to know. I do know my manufacture date is technically in '99 but it is listed as a 2000.

I think I saw something where they started switching around April of 2000, but not 100% sure. But why are "some" 2001's different? I don't understand how to tell which one has what from 2000-2001. I'm surprised someone on here has not set the record straight yet. It should be considered good news that your VIN is not in that list I guess.

AFAIK 00-01's it's difficult to tell by VIN. You'd have to take your old one out to veryify single or dual...

It's only a breath of fresh air if you're one of the 90%. If you're one of the 10% (or even less depending who you talk to), hope isn't much of a plan.

"Hope"fully you're in the 90%. Cheers!
