Help! PSE relay wiring

Hey guys I have the wires and switch all mounted for the system but it doesn't work. I followed those directions in that pdf that was posted a while back for pins 1-9, for which I have attached an image. I think they may be wrong or maybe I'm not doing something right . Can anyone please draw out a diagram with the pins and their wire colors? Or even a pic of the relay hooked up will help. tia

here are my notes.... the big thing is, you have to use the numbers on the relay socket and not the numbers on the relay... after knowing this it was all down hill... GL

my notes are as follows:

2.2.2 Ok, so here's where i got a little confused until i found the wiring diagram for the relays. The pin #s correspond to the numbers on the relay socket that you're installing. Just follow the "work to be done" column. The two really, really long wires (RE/BU and GR/RE) go to the rear of the car so group those together. The brown wire goes to relay slot 28; the directions say jumper plug 11 but on mine it was 12--i put it in with the rest of the brown wires. The grey/pink wire goes to slot 23; this is the wire for the speed dependant cut off--if you don't want the sound to cut off (to be compliant with some European sound laws) between 35-45 mph (or whatever the cutoff is) then DON'T INSTALL THIS WIRE!!! If you do then the only way to get rid of that cutoff is either to 1) remove the jumper (from RennTech.org) which screws up (from posts I've read) anything from nav, the cab top operation, auto-door lock at 5mph or anything that uses the speedometer as the trigger or 2) clip the leg off one of the diodes in the relay (from RennTech.org). I'd just leave the wire out. The rest of the wires are just inserted into the relay socket.

2.4 These are the pin #s for the switch, which is already installed so the pin #s don't really help you. The RE/GR and the GR/GN wires should've been installed in the relay socket in step 2.2.2. The GR/BL/BR wire says to be installed in "jumper plug 5/2 (slot 28)". Well in mine that was wrong, on the wiring diagram 5/2 is in slot 25 (with the rest of the GR/BL/BR wires). All of the wire colors seemed to be grouped together so use that as another guide. The RE/BU wire needs to be crimped to the BK/RE wire in the B10 fuse box. My RE/BU wire had a connector on the end like i was supposed to do something with it; i ended up cutting it off and spliced it into the BK/RE wire. There is another connector for a fuse in the electronics kit that you could use but i couldn't get the BK/RE connector out of the fuse box and it was easy to splice into it. Here's where you can use the friction tape and tie wraps to wrap all of the wires and make it all pretty and non-fire hazard-like in there.

here are some answers:

The relay looks like this:

The part number is 996 618 980 03, and it is usually on the top row on the relay support bracket.

For the wiring connections, most are obvious, but the mystery one that you note BS 5/2 are jumper plugs that are in the relay support bracket that is also where the relay is. These jumper plugs are just plugs that are a common point for things to be wired to. Examples of things that are in routed to jumper plugs are:

Grounds
Dash switch illumination
Speedometer signals.

So anyway, BS 5/2 is the common point for dash switch illumination and it is located in either slot 28 or more likely on your car slot 25 on the relay support bracket. Just look for the jumper plug that has several GY/BU/BR (or BN) wires coming out of it. Slot 25 and 28 are along the bottom row of the relay support bracket. This is also where slot 23 is for you to clip the GR/PK speedometer A signal wire. Make sure you get the one that goes up to the PSE relay, and not one that is for something else.

Fuse B10 is on the fuse block, and is already connected to the relay, but you will need to run another line from fuse B10 to terminal A4 of the switch to run the illumination. (one trick to save some wire is to simply take the switch illumination leads and jumper them the an adjacent switch. Just look for GR/BL/BR and RE/BU wires on the other switch.)

The only other 2 wires you need go from pin A5 of the switch to slot 4 of the relay socket, and from pin A1 of the switch to slot 7 of the relay socket. For these 2 you need to get the pigtail with the connector pin on it from your Porsche parts counter.

Does this make sense?

One last thing, the relay support bracket is held in by one nut, and a plastic support on the driver's side lower A pillar. After you remove the nut, the relay support bracket will pull out, and has enough slack on it the you can turn it over to get to all of the wiring connectors, to add these connections.

12. Like others have reported, my last connection of the single RE/BU wire to the fuse block at B10, was a problem. The attached connector (female spade) did not work, so I was forced to splice the wire into another (RE / BK) wire coming off fuse B10.

12a. When the TSB refers to "2 RE/BU" wires coming from the dash switch, they really mean "3". Having the total electrical schematic in front of you really helps at this stage.

13. Like others have reported, the instruction to place the GY/BU/BN wire at the 5/2 position of relay block 28 was incorrect. Relay block 25 was the correct spot.

Thanks again! This and another post on renntech, and I got it working. It was personally WELL worth the effort Attached is a schematic of the whole system.

My relay pins ended up as follows:

pin1 - gray/pink
pin2 - brown
pin3 - none
pin4 - red/gray
pin5 - gray/green
pin6 - red/blue
pin7 - none
pin8 - gray/red
pin9 - none
