rpf996 is infamous around these parts
My 2cents. I agree the stock 996 shifter was too sloppy so like everyone I went with the B&M. I had a very reputable Porsche mechanic/racer install it. I initially liked it, but ultimately it became too tough to shift. This from a guy who has run GM muscle cars for 20 years before my 996. Also after a while the lateral play became unbearable. When in gear, I had about an inch of lateral play. I got tired of this and had a 997 GT3 shifter installed. Much better and quicker, but the throw was too long. Then I added the agency power short shifter link, which tightened things up and is about an inch shorter into second fourth & sixth & the shifting is smooth as silk & quicker than the B&M due to far less effort. The only criticism is that there is a little lateral play, which I am told is inherent in these shifters. Has anyone experienced less lateral play? Suncoast & Schnell make a billet shifter link * I am wondering if this will help the lateral play. This is the link on the driver side of the shifter versus the agency power link which is on the other side.
