Thank you for the offer......I definitely may be interested in taking you up on that offer.

Let me know what your schedule is looking like in next few weeks. I'll be out of town from the 4th-7th of July, but besides that I tend to schedule at least "1" week in advance.

That's some of the exact feedback that I'm looking for......as I too currently have the V8 S4 as my DD. It's good to hear that you have no regrets.

I replied to a thread similar to this on Rennlist so if it was you forgive me for the doublepost. While still relatively rare, the 99-01 cars with the 3.4 engine are more likely to have a catastrophic engine failure than the facelifted 3.6 cars. It seems as though there have been several threads within the past few months, especially on Rennlist, started by guys who had some sort of failure days after buying a 99-01. While it is still fairly rare when compared to the entire population of 99-01 cars it is certainly something that I would be cognizant of if I were in your shoes.

Now that I am through with that, my opinion is that the 99-01 cars are breathtaking with an aero kit (comprised of different front bumper, different side skirts, and a fixed "taco" wing). Additionally these first gen cars can be had in the high 20's/30's. However, if you are going to spend significantly more money I would opt for a Turbo. Wide body looks amazing, really fast/easily modified for monster gains, and generally slightly more reliable motor.

Whether or not you agree with my opinion I wish you the best. Search the for sale sections on both here and Rennlist to see what you like.

I would say that my only real regret with my car is that it is not a widebody. (sounds like a good reason to upgrade in the future...;-) ) But it does carry a premium for essentailly just better looks and some exclusivity. They were just impossible to find for under $40K for a 2002 or better, which was my absolute top end for a toy. On the plus side, I often park right next to a guy with an 05 997 C2S and there is surprisingly little difference between his widebody and my NB. The 996 WB is much more pronounced and impressive.

Get the S....That extra 1" per side makes all the difference....night and day. You will regret getting a non S body everytime you pull up on one.

I'll be replacing my S4, which is currently my DD, and I definitely like how sure footed the AWD is when the weather takes a turn for the worse.

On 996s only the C4S and the Turbos have the wider body.

Well looks like I won't be getting a wide body in the near future then.

Although I too am on rennlist, I can honestly say that I didn't/haven't started the same thread there.

I too have heard about significant engine failures/replacements on the '99-'01 3.4L, and I was advised to steer clear of any of these vehicles where the motor was in fact still original.

I'm also looking at '99-'01s with the aero kit, as I too really like the look.

NB cars still have relatively wide hips as far as production cars go. If you squat down behind one (and avoid the funny looks) they still look pretty darn good from the back.
