Question too much motor oil

the dip stick was showing tha the oil was running low. So, I decided to add some but I added too much. Is this going to cause some problems? Should I take it in and get the oil changed? pleas help!

Take it in and drain some, to be on the safe side.

Recheck at normal temp,

Check the oil fom the dipstick when your car is at normal warm temperature. Shut it off, wait 5 minutes or so. That will give you the most accurate reading. If it is cold, all the oil will be in the pan, and will appear like there is too much.

THE GAUGE

ON THE DASH REPRESENTS 1.5 QTS IF YOU WERE ALMOST TO THE BOTTOM LINE AND ADDED 1-2 QTS YOU WILL BE FINE AS WELL I ALWAYS CHECK THE DIPSTICK, IF YOU WENT A LITTLE OVER IT WILL BURN OFF IF YOU WENT ALOT OVER THEN GOTO THE DEALER AND DO AN OIL CHANGE, I PERSONALLY DID THIS AND CALLED CHAMPION AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS NOTHING TO RUN THERE ABOUT...

Depends on how much you overfilled it. If you put way too much in, Drain some at home, before driving. You can do some serious damage with too much oil.

Just remember to only open the drain plug a tiny bit or you'll have a pretty serious mess on your hands. Don't ask me how I know

I've been told that it is easier to drain if you take it from the filter instead of the plug, which can quickly turn into Niagra Falls....

I use one of these for my MB and would use in a heartbeat to extract a bit out of the 996. Though I would never do an oil change with it on the 996, it is perfect for this application.

Extremely easy to use...And it's on sale!

If it is a quart or less do not worry about it. If it bothers you then unsrew the black plastic oil filter cannister. Oil will not pour out. You can dump the oil out of the cannister.
