I know this FAQ has been asked b4 so many times, but I haven't gotten a direct answer

What are the speaker sizes on a 03 Coupe? Dash, sub w/ hi-fi and the rears???

I've searched and searched and everybody seems to mention to put bigger speaker sizes but fail to mention the stock sizes. Also I was wondering if any one knew if the stock speakers with the Hi-Fi are 4 ohm or 8 ohms.

I just want to upgrade my stock Hi-Fi speakers with better quality ones, perhaps Infiniti or Alpine. Either way a set of speakers that won't require a lot of power to drive to sound OK.

Front dash should be a 4" and separate tweeter. The HiFi pods in the door are 5.25". The rear speaker panels are the same as the front dash with a 4" and separate tweeter. Here is a tidbit for you... do not bother replacing the rear speakers... they are barely heard as is and not worth spending the money upgrading.

I tossed the old speakers, so i do not recall the exact impendance. I think they were some combo of impendences to match the amps 2 ohm output.

THANKS A MILLION SLOTH!

Now off to the store I go....and thanks for the advise about the rear speakers. I'll leave those alone. I'm going to go upgrade the front dash and the door woofers.

for greta sound quality and clarity and if your not into tooo much bassss!!!! i would reccomend getting either diamond audio , i used to have them in my clk and it absolutely sounds marvelous... the only thing i dont like about is that the high's a re a bit on the high side, i had to tone down the highs a bit but i absolutely positively love it... another option are focal speakers.. they are also fabolous too.. my friend has them in his c280 and it sounds amazing, i also know that KEVIN M from the boards has focals in his 996 he says that it sounds great he can even give you the sizes for it , if i am correct he just installed them a few weeks or a month ago...

Joe is correct I went with Focals ... The 5WS has 10X more bass then the stock woofer in the door.. its a 5 3/8 woofer... Also I used the Focal 100V2 components 4" woofer and 1" tweeter for the front and rears... Note the stock front & rear enclosures had to me modified for these speakers to fit..

Focal 5ws in stock enclosure.

I purchased speakers and amp from http://www.cbrstereo.com/

I will suggest a 3 way component system from Focal, Quart, or JL Audio. 3 way component systems usually consist of a matched 6.5" bass driver with a 4" mid and tweeter. The 6.5" can be mounted in the door location on a wooden baffle which should not cost much to make. This can be done without any cutting or drilling and will allow you to return everything to stock very easily. There is a significant advantage between the 6.5" and the 5.25". I had the JL XR653-cs system in my car... it sounded excellent IMO and was a lot cheaper than the Focals. All these speakers sound best with at least 75 solid RMS watts per channel behind them... something the factory amp is not capable of doing.

And when you are ready for some real bass (tight and controlled not booming) consider a sealed enclosure behind the rear seats with two 8"'s... or even 2 10"s ala Carlos.

I was warned when I had a Corvette with a Bose Gold system that as BareBones said, not any speaker will work with the Bose system. The reason apparently was because the speakers each had an individual amp at the speaker. Perhaps the Bose system in the 996 is the same way? I've never looked on my Bose system speakers as my car is also bare bones stock...it's just that good!

drsmeal is right

other than the fact that it has an amp for each speaker. well it depends on the system set up ... my clk i beleive had one amp to run all the speaker when i previously had teh bose system...

the main concern is the ohm rating of the bose amp.... also the bose speaekrs run a differtn ohm rating than a regualr speaker.. it is now wise to use a bose amp with a regular speaker.. it will just end up ruining your amp and speakers...

i have heard jl audio they have good sounding speakers for the money alot of audiophiels use jl audio... i prefer and would reccomend diamond audio and focal, they to me are oen of the best..

a set of speakers that have a amazae me is teh premiere series speakers.. they are cheap and they sound pretty good too

best thing is to research enjoy your mods
