Headlight swap?

I've got a 99 C2 Aero, and was wondering if I can simply swap out the Litronic Xenon headlights into it? Are they a direct plug and play swap? My car doesn't have the amber lights, but they are burnt looking inside, like a bulb went bad and started melting the lenses.

Does the 03-04 996 w/ halogen lights have projector beams? I can't seem to find any pics of newer 996's w/ halogen's. And will those housings fit my car?

The 03-04 does have projector beams. The easiest way to tell a litronic car is the silver pop up disk for the washer. Only the litronic has the washer. I believe that the swap is plug and play for pre-03 with like year housings but the 03-04 units have to have a jumper mod in the receiving plug. Details are on Renntech.

Inthered,
the litronics are a direct plug and play swap. The most important thing you have to remember is that you have a 99 car. Only the teardrop style headlight from 99-01 will fit, absent a complete front end makeover. Any 02 and later headlight will not fit in your car.

Plug 'n Play

YOu can do a direct plug 'n play. I did it on my 99 C2 and have had NO problems with it. Buy the lights from a factory authorized dealer (Champion Motors in FL is great!) and have them installed professionally!! The job will cost you about $2500 altogether, but a worthwhile install, the Litronics look great.

Good luck

You can pick up a used set of 99-01 Litronic headlights for ~$1000 on eBay.
Swapping them out is easier than changing a tire or swapping out a tail light.

Curious, is the switch out simply one out one in or do you have to have an additional wiring harness? Thanks. jw

1) Pull old headlight out.
2) Push new headlight in.

That's it.

He lied/was misinformed.
For '99-'01 986/996 all you need is a L and R litronic headlight.
Trust me, I've done it myself more than once.

The wiring harness is ONLY for the high beams to flip up when activated. Otherwise they stay straight and may blind on coming drivers. Without the harness all works just fine, except VERY bright high beams. I did the mod on my old Boxster...it was plug and play.

I have retrofitted lits in 2 Boxster per the factory TSB. It is the same as a 1999-2001 996.

The kit has the 2 headlights plus what you see. A control unit and wiriing harness. Some people just put in the headlights.

Your burn marks are because the reflector is made of plastic. There is supposed to be 55 watt bulbs, but people like putting in 100 watt and then the plastic melts.

Well, its actually....

1) turn bolt
2) pull old out
3) push new in
4) turn bolt

I did the swap on my boxster and 996.. you do not need more wiring unless you want to have the auto leveling mod... which is worthless but easy to do. Buy the lights from an online dealer if you dont want 8 year old used xenons and have to replace the bulbs soon. I paid around 1200 new for mine.
