I'm really not convinced there really are "so many failures" with 996 engines.

I'd really need to see stats on this.

Remanufactured Engine

No Porsche motor is "bullet proof" and what good is a two year warranty? 99's had a four year and they are still failing today. I do not understand how a manufacture such as Porsche can produce a product without proper R&D testing? Many say that only a small percentage of owners have experienced these engine failures (hooey), ALL 3.4's should have been recalled. Forget the dealer, call PCNA and tell them that you have thoroughly researched this issue and that the next piece of correspondence that they receive from you will be care of your Lawyer.

how difficult would it be to get a class action lawsuit "IF" the problem is really out there. being in the auto industry... and not having very deep pockets... trying to get PORSCHE to own up would be of great interest to me. so the only way would be to get everyone who has had a problem to chime in.. and provide proof of what the failure was.

that is the hard part.. because if the engine went to PORSCHE..we will never know. actually getting the data will be the hurdle of such a lawsuit... just saying its porsche's fault means nothing.. and then actually PROVING that the 3.4 -->3.6 -->3.8 upgrades were done due to a technical design flaw is even harder...

im saving my pennies and hoping i dont get pegged with a blown engine.. im in the process of getting a new tranny..due to a 2nd gear issue (what a surprise)

Sunset sells parts at cost. The other Porsche dealers hate them...true story.
Two months ago Sunset quoted me $7820 for the 3.6 and $1150 for a new DME and those prices reflected a core swap. Now the install and misc parts...that's a whole other ball-o-wax
