Can Boxster OEM 16 inch fit 996 ('99)?

I am looking for winter tires and found a guy selling his Boxster wheels OEM 16 inches.
He is also selling 17 inch aftermarket (which he used also on his Boxster).
I got them checked by one of workshops. But as they are used to "rich" customers - dealing with people with Ferraris, Lambos and Porsche collectors - they told me one of these is rubbing against the strut and the other is touching the brake (did not tell me which is which).
They advised to buy new rims and wheels!! Which I thought is not so money efficient way...

However, I have seen people posted the use of spacers. And also, using different wheels. I was thinking of reserving the low profiles for summer and a bit thicker ones for winter as I would be driving on snow and occasional ice.

In your opinion, what should i do?

(Currently, I have stock 18 inch wheels...)

thanx'

If the guy is in driving distance, tell him you will buy them as long as they will fit. Then put them on the car at his house.

Or buy a rusty civic for winter duty. =)

16 inch wheels won't clear the 996 brakes. 17 inch is the minimum diameter.

If you get the offsets, front and rear, for the 17s, then you can figure out if they will fit your car.
