buying my first 996 (in Australia)

Hey all,

I'm buying my first porsche, and have decided based on price etc. I will be buying a 996.

Now in Australia porsches are extremely rare, especially where im from (west coast). So the prices are a LOT higher than in the US were I assume majority of people on this forum are from.

I was just hoping if I could get any advice on what to look out for when buying one of these awesome cars. I have done my research, but I always find that a group of people know much more than any single website or something could teach me.

To give you an idea of what I'm looking at there is this one here:
http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsa...cle_id=6065706

Which is relatively cheap for the km's and extras it includes when compared to say:
http://www.carsales.com.au/pls/carsa...cle_id=5801311

So I am just here wondering if I could get any info that may help on this purchase.

Thanks alot all.

-R

depending on KM's on the odometer but generally about $100-$120k AUD.

Which is slightly out of my price range...

on that 1st listing.... those are not gt2 wheels as advertised. They are cheap wheels that can be had for $500-$800 US.... I would prefer the 2nd you listed... since it looks cleaner and seems to be driven... get a pre-purchase inspection by a reputable indie.

98 cars did not reach here in the US.... so it is tough to say the history of that year. From what I read there were some issues with intermixing more in the 98... maybe you should try Pistonhead.com since it is more European based and had the 98s'. They should know more than us. If you can try to look for 2000... this is the year that egas started and many updates to the engine were made... GL with your search.

I suggest you buy one here and have it shipped there... Europeans are snagging up our cars here like hot cakes.. Im sure people can help here scope one out for you.
