read the sc post in this forum and learn that added aftermarket power doesn't come trouble-free. not only does it cost a lot of $ especially when you take a look at percentage outlay to value of car, but you also expend reliability aka peace of mind.

i will always advise friends to get a normally aspirated engine car with factory backed power you'll be happy with else get something more powerful or go with the turbo version of the same car (c4s v. tt).

i only like na cars so the natural next step is the 997 gt3 for me.

I pretty much made that up. 9ff makes a 3.8 big bore kit, but it is not avail in the US yet. I have no idea if X51 cams would fit, let alone provide any useful improvement. The SC and ecu would have to be a custom job if the first two items were ever actually sourced.

sometimes there's no sense in dollars and doing either type of work on your c4s represents to what i'm guessing a minimum of $15K worth of parts and labor which on a wallet friendly day would account for 1/3 of the value of your 911. if i were to try and be more accurate, i'd be you'd easily be pushing half the value of the car for the big bore kit or x51 project.

that's crazy stupid $ spending and you'll get but a sliver of that money back in a flatter depreciation curve. this also applies to all those mod crazy 911 turbo guys in the other forum.

its not stupid... the whole argument isn't about value and resale either... its what the OP wants... who cares if you put more $$ in it than you can get out of it... your certainly not spending $$ to recoup it... many have their modified 911's as toys and don't worry about what its worth... they modify them for their enjoyment... I know of a 99 that had a GT3 motor installed... they told him it wasn't worth it... who are they to say its not worth it... the GT3 motor is bulletproof and I bet he will have a nice reliable toy for many years to come!!!

if you put a GT3 motor in a C4S then you will have some serious reliable horsepower.... I don't know if the X51 kit and what it costs will give you the "kick" your looking for either... its more of a track setup with higher torque on the top end.... your best bet and cheapest route is to look for a 997 3.8 motor and have it transplanted into the car... (or a 3.8 X51) motor forget about boring out cylinders and stuff... your car won't run properly and will vibrate ; it won't be smooth like a stock engine...

I didn't realize Ben's opinion mattered around here... at least that's what I thought... so I tried to enlighten by setting the record strait with somebody Else's opinion... my own.

Hi All,

I'm in the same boat 2004 996 c4s need more power might be going the supercharger route. My brother has a 930 turbo when his turbo kicks in your pinned to the seat. My other friend has a 997tt i drove it you never really feel the turbo kick in. i did a ecu no difference juist felt like i wasted money and the cold air intake improved the sound. There are no other mods that can make your car scream like a supercharger.

You have three choices if you want mo power: SC your current car for $8-14K depending on how you source the kit; buy a TT; buy a GT3. Don't throw away your money on other things for your NA 996 hoping to see engine performance gains. My .02

I can't remember exactly why Ben was banned. I just went back to check his posts and it seems he was banned on January 1st, but he was busy here that day and I don't have energy to go through them all to find the one that broke the camels back. He still pops up on RennTech occasionally.
