is the barrel conical shaped (like a funnel) or is it cylindrical? Also do I see the stem valve in the barrel behind the center spokes?.... TIA

 

It is not conical, but shaped like a cylinder. The valve stem is mounted in the barrel on approximately a 1.5" wide ridge that sticks up about 1/2" on the inside of the barrel about 1/3 the distance from the back lip. I suspect this gives the wheel added strength by having some contour to the flat surface of the barrel. I added a few pics below.

There is plenty of clearence to access the stem when the wheels are mounted on the car. The nice thing the stem being inside the wheel is that you don't see any unsightly valve stem on the outer part of the wheel and no more fuss about cleainging around the valve stem.
