TMAC is infamous around these parts
I have heard good things about the VF SC. I have been watching info on the R&D on their Stage II kit which I will wait for. I have also heard that if you are good with your hands and have a good skill with cars you can install it yourself over a weekend if you have a garage.
My plan is wait for that Stage II kit to come out and then go that route. I have invested work into my car and got it for a great price so I plan to keep my car. I will look at buying a Turbo later because I will own this C4 forever. That is just make take on it but to each his own.
Good luck with the buy and build.

if it were me, i'd just get the plenum and ebay headers. i wouldn't want to invest more into a supercharger than the car is worth...

dont the factory headers have cats in them? Most factory headers have cats in them, and by removing those you're already removing a restriction and then you can make longer runners which produces more low-end torque.

For the 996, factory headers do not have catalytic converters on it.

Reputable aftermarket headers do show increase in HP but the increase is very small. I have heard ebay headers actually loses HP according to a member on rennlist who did a before and after dyno.

+1, take a look under your car one day, you'll see how it's all layed out... If you're local, you're welcome to come by for a lift..

Cool

I just came from building a 400+whp car with a Vortech SC and many other mods.

While I had good luck and nothing broke while I had it, I was always looking over my shoulder and listening for wierd noises or detonation.

I made a vow that I will never again add FI to a car that did not come that way from the factory.

There is a lot more to it than just bolting on the parts and tuning the EMU.
The Porsche TT motors use a completely different block.

Just my opinion and experience.

So, if I'm reading this thread correctly, it seems that there isn't very much to be gained without going into the engine or SC. Does that sum it up accurately?

That would mean that the gain is marginal from things like Cold Air Intakes and ECU Programming. Again, correct?

Thanks for helping me understand.

depends on what you want...

*CAI greatly enhances the sound of the car.

*headers... takes away low end power but puts the power at the higher rpm.

*exhaust... good weight reduction, works great with CAI

*ecu reflash... better response and increases redline for another 100 rpm, which will tie all these mods together.

so... it's a give and take. Not huge difference in power but it does serve some purpose. Its all about mods right?
