anybody know where I can get a used 3.4 or 3.6 engine with fairly low clicks at a good price?

Somone had a boxster motor for sale on the parts thread recently. Otherwise, call your local dealer and ask where to find a local salvage supplier.
www.dcauto.com is one.

That's a great web site. They have the parts schematic diagrams and part numbers, just like the dealer parts departments do.

In case you were wondering, a 2.7 litre Boxster engine is available for $24k!! Yikes! I assume that's a new one.

I talked to Dcauto yesterday. they did not have any 3.4's, had a 3.6 with 30K+ miles on it for about $7,500. Sunset and Suncoast have the reman 3.6's for $8,400 (plus core which you should get back). At only $900 difference even the guy at DC said the reman with a 24 month/unlimited mileage warranty was the way to go.

Interestingly, when I told him that my 3.4 had gone bad his comment was "aren't they all going bad!!" He said they very rarely see a high mileage 3.4 as so many of the engines are going bad.

Took a look at car-part.com. Really high prices. It amazes me how much the wrecking yards are asking for engines, often as much or more than Porsche wants for their reman engines. It is also frustrating that Porsche wants $2,500+ more for a 3.4 than a 3.6. How is that justified?

Talked to Oklahoma Foreign last week, no 3.4's available, they have some 3.6 I think, they are listed on Ebay. As for LA Porsche Dismantlers, you see alot of bad post on them on the various boards, but they almost always have engines listed on Ebay, pretty high prices, almost as much as a reman from Porsche.

If you aren't in a huge hurry, just wait and keep your eyes open. A few come up for sale each month here or there.
