996 exhaust question: No muffler & no cats

I was wondering if having a muffler by-pass and cat by-pass is bad for the 1999 3.4l. I have the muffler by-pass right now but maybe want something.. well.. LOUDER!!

I know, I know, you will think I am crazy!

I am asking this because I know when taking mufflers off certain cars you can actually blow your engine. For example, the 03+ terminator's (mustang cobra's) will lift the heads if WOT w/out mufflers.

So for my car:
muffler by-pass = safe
Cat by-pass = safe
But what about both? I drive my car hard, will this lead to problems?

How loud will it be? I also plan on getting headers to go with all this.

Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Here's my advice - earplugs! ive been running bypass pipes for over 2 years and those are too loud! Plus the car loses power. it only feels better at the very top end. IMO you should put some sport cats and get that new After Hours exhaust if you want loud. Obviously it will be not as loud as right now but at least powerwise you'll be better off.

Here's a link to an old post I made on Rennlist. You can get an idea of what muffler bypass pipes will sound like by putting on right angle pipes that are available at pep boys or many other shops for about $15. Cheap way to see if you like the sound...

Will the performance loss from putting on the muffler bypass be fixed by adding performance headers?
